HTL Board Blows It

Unbelievable: The City Council sets up a meet with representatives of the Taxpayer's League Board of Directors, yesterday, and the League is a no show. One of the Directors says they don't think it would be appropriate to discuss the issue in public and get involved in a "media circus". As if that hasn't already happened with the threat of the lawsuit and all. The Board of Directors blew it big time. I think the Taxpayer's League might well be toast at this point as they've likely lost all credibility.

Lost all credibility? Not nearly. Wait to see how things play out. Ignore the media hype and PR. HTL is clueless when it comes to PR, and so you jump on 'em. Wait to see what happens. It's still far too early to come to any conclusions.

Both the Times Standard and Eureka Reporter slammed the Taxpayer's League in today's editorials. I suspect the North Coast Journal will, as well, but it might not be in today's issue.

As is to be expected. Rule number one in a small, depressed economy -- never piss off your advertisers. There are plenty of large pro-beyond-all-reason development business owners who would be none to happy. It's completely safe for our local media to slam HTL.
