Desperation

Just to show how pathetically desperate the Gallegos campaign has gotten, take a look at the contents of this e-mail that was forwarded to me, allegedly sent out over the Alliance for Ethical Business list- serve:

"Ace Hardware in Mckinllyville has Dikeman signs on their fence. I think it is inappropriate, if not downright foolish, for a business to openly step into a political race. Please call 839-1587, ask for the owner, and let them know that you may not wish to shop there anymore."

So what if a business decides to put a campaign sign on their property. Sure, it might be foolish for a business to openly get involved in a political campaign, but that's for them to decide. I'm trying to remember if I've seen any Gallegos signs on business property.

That e-mail alone gives me reason enough to vote for Dikeman.

I am going to do all my shopping at this store now.

The term is called social fascism - which means they can support their person but another person can't. Wow thats progressive!

I hope thes idiots keep it up because it only exposes how corrupt they are.

Way to go Ace and way to go Fred.

I guess that means we can boycott all the nutjobs who want to use Measure T to sue any business they don't like too.

If I lived in McKinleyville, I would fully support Ace Hardware.

I am not a very political person, but I do dislike Gallegos for personal reasons. WE need a new DA. Farmer may have been a pain, but at least he kept people informed of what was going on. You would always see him in the paper or on the news about something. ANd that meant a lot to some people that I have talked to. They liked seeing him talking about work, and they felt like he was trying to get things done. Getting anything out of Paul is next to impossible. The man is a master of the run around and double speak.

They should be desperate. You should spend some time walking around on the second floor of the courthouse. Hear what the defense lawyers say abut the deputies. Stand in a courtroom and listen to all the dismissals at every Monday trial call. Listen to a judge ask a new deputy if he's dismissing all his cases. See cases cops worked hard on get dismissed because deputy d.a.s aren't prepared, don't have their witnesses or evidence, just don't care.
Wonder why drug users get put on probation and the deputies don't ask for search clauses. Mr. Gallegos can pick one case at a time, use his whole office, and get a decent result, but the problem is with all the other cases. The
DA's office as a whole is a joke. It survives because of about 4 deputies, Dikeman included. Ask anyone who works on the second floor.

Gallegos and his handlers should be scared. People aren't buying his bull any longer. He has had 3 years to put out and now its time for him to pay his dues.

No more trying to strong arm decent hardworking folks.

They should be ashamed for trying to prohibit any entity of exercising their rights to free speech. But I guess that only means they have the right and not their opposition.

Jeez - what hypocrites!

As someone on the AEB list, I got that email.

It didn't come from the Gallegos campaign, it came from some lady who supports Gallegos (obviously). It was a stupid thing to say - businesses have every right to be political. I doubt that she would be mad about a business putting up a Gallegos sign. So it wasn't the fact that the business is political, it is the fact that she didn't like their politics.

As a lefty I don't shop at right-wing businesses, if I can help it. But the idea of calling businesses and telling them not to put up Dikeman signs, or not to support Measure T -- that seems like bullying and draconian. Boycott away, but don't harass people just for thinking differently than you.

This is supposed to be a free country after all.

I guess that Captain Buhne is also getting desperate (being a fan of Paul Gallegos), as his recent poll asking people whether Paul Gallegos will fire Worth Dikeman "Apprentice" style is disgraceful. The attorneys who work there are all "at will" meaning they can be fired for no reason whatsoever. There is no job protection. These people have lived with the fear of no safety net for over three years. Trivializing people losing their jobs is tantamount to somebody who does not understand how devastating that could be with mortgages and children.

Captain Buhne does not seem to understand that Worth Dikeman stepped up to the plate when somebody needed to point out that an office, which is crucial to our quality of life in Humboldt, was being systematically destroyed under the immature, inconsistent, and ignorant rule of Paul Gallegos.

If Gallegos fires Worth Dikeman for speaking the truth, then maybe the public will see that he doesn't want people working there who are willing to speak up when things are wrong. And a government office that does not allow for dissention within has something to hide.

At 10:30 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Picking Dikeman or Gallegos is one thing.

To stand up for Measure T is to stand up for a measure designed to let any nutjob sue an incorporated business into oblivion just because they allow a campaign meeting to happen or donate some muffins to a candidate. Measure T is designed to discriminate and is designed to hurt some businesses to the benefit of others.

Any business supporting Measure T deserves some heat and deserves to lose business.

Gallegos should have fired Dikeman after the Recall. No one can seriously or honestly say that any other employer would allow someone to work in their office after all that happened during the Recall. Galleogs gave Dikeman a second chance after the Recall, and he's blown it.

Sorry the AEB is GAllegos

At 10:48 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

10:36, so you're saying that if you worked in a government office and saw serious problems within it and had the courage to tell the public, that you should be fired?

Compare that situation to the federal government and find the flaws in your reasoning. The people who spoke up about Watergate also should have been fired. The military leaders who told the department of defense that we weren't sending enough troops to Iraq should be fired.

If one were to endorse your view, then a good government worker is one who turns their head when a department is troubled or covers up the blunders of their boss.

If that's the government that you want, then follow your conscience. But just remember: you catch it you keep it. You will get the government that you deserve.

Businesses have every right to be political, huh? Then why carry water for the bullying, draconian Measure T? It would strip incorporated buisnesses of ALL their rights in local elections? They couldn't even have a political meeting in their business! Or did you forget to read this turkey and let Paul do your thinking for you?

At 11:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Under Measure T would a local unincorporated business be able to make a political contribution, but a local incorporated business not be able to?

To listen to the Measure T folks they say it's because a corporation is not an individual, but neither is an unincorporated business. They are both businesses run by people. For small businesses, there are very few differences.

What's the point again?

At 11:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think the point is that big businesses are almost always corporations. The point isn't to punish local businesses, whether incorproated or not.

Plus, do local businesses even really need to be political? I mean, if they can't is that really such a big deal?

Seems a small price to pay to keep big businesses like Pacific Lumber and Walmart from attacking us again. That's why I am leaning toward voting yes....At least, I think.

At 11:23 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

11:17, it kind of like term limits though...it shows an utter lack of respect for voter intelligence. We can't control ourselves from voting for an incumbent doing a bad job because they are an incumbent.

This is suggesting that we will always be swayed by the position of the "big business." It didn't work out that way in both of the cases that you use as illustrations. Obviously, the voters examined that part of it (that big businesses were supporting a certain position) and promptly rejected that position.

Why do we need yet another law when the voters have the intelligence to see those issues?

The Measure T folks obviously either: 1. have no respect for voter intelligence or 2. are afraid that local business owners who happen to be incorporated do not share their views and will vote against their candidates and measures.

Either way, it doesn't smell right.

At 11:27 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Whether the "point" is to punish local businesses or not is irrelevant. We're not talking about the sweet intentions eminating from the Democracy Unlimited gang, which are entirely lacking if you take a closer look at those racketeers.

The "point" is that MEASURE T HURTS LOCAL BUSINESS, whether intentionally or not. The "need to be political" is similarly irrelevant, if you actually read this turkey, contribution is defined as "anything of value" whether space in a business, time of its employees, muffins, coffee, pens, scrap lumber or ANYTHING ELSE OF VALUE.

Businesses will be caught in this trap even if they don't donate a penny of actual cash. Measure T allows anyone, even some homeless guy, to sue these businesses, with no repercussions for junk or bogus suits. Local busineeses will be sued into bankruptcy and Democracy Unlimited will be laughing all the way to the bank.

11:17 wrote: "Plus, do local businesses even really need to be political?".

If they know what's best for them, I think they do. Politics (aka government) can destroy a business, or maybe even help it in some circumstances. They'd be fools not to pay attention and be involved in politics.

What's that old saying? Something along the line of, "You may not have an interest in politics, but politics certainly has an interest in you...". Anyway, something along that line.

At 1:09 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The Alliance for Ethical Business' e-mail was not about Measure T. It was about trying to punish a person through his/her business for having an opinion different that the AEB's. That is the issue. These guys are SUCH hypocrites it is unbelievable. I am glad that the business that was targeted is big enough to withstand the AEB tantrum. Lots of small business' would probably have crumbled by the attack - Not exactly freedom of expression to me for these thugs to go around blackmailing people.

Ken Miller didn't say he doesn't "write 215 cards." He said he does not "recommend" marijuana. Allison Jackson, who is a lawyer and should know better, tried to attack him but apparently doesn't know what she is talking about. Like Dikeman, she lost her composure when she was unable to have intelligent debate with someone who disagreed with her. If people like Dikeman and Jackson weren't so rabid about their dislike of Gallegos, they might be able to keep the discussion on point.

Dikeman wasted tax-payer money to viciously pursue a medical marijuana patient who was an amputee. Worth lost the case because the man was clearly a valid 215 patient who was missing a leg. Worth said on KMUD that he didn’t mind losing the case. Apparently he doesn’t mind wasting the tax-payers money to go after patients either.

Why is Ken Miller afraid to admit he writes 215 cards? It's legal, so why the semantics?

At 4:37 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If you are talking about the KMUD show with Dikeman in which Miller called in, Miller did not refuse to "admit he writes 215 cards." He wasn't asked if "writes 215 cards."

Voters passed Prop 215 ten years ago, but that did not (and does not) stop some prosecutors, like Worth Dikeman, from using the DA's office from pursuing people with a valid 215. On the KMUD call-in show, Dikeman played dumb about pursuing a case in which a 215 patient had a total of four (4) plants. When Ken Miller called in to point out that Dikeman unjustly pursued a case against a different 215 patient, which Dikeman eventually lost, Dikeman tried to attack Miller for writing 215 cards.

Dikeman has attempted to tone down his strong anti-medical marijuana bias for the sake of the election, but those comments to Miller exposed Dikeman's true colors. Even though the will of the people is that medical marijuana is and should be legal, Dikeman would prefer that no 215's are issued, and that as a prosecutor he is willing to drag patients through baseless criminal proceedings for actions that are within the scope of the law.

Get your facts straight, Ken. You're way off base.

"“I would like to see marijuana decriminalized,” he said. “Notice that I’m not saying legalized, I’m saying decriminalized and taxed heavily.”

Dikeman said that if he were district attorney he would abide by the Board of Supervisors’ adopted resolution regarding medicinal marijuana.

He said the resolution states, “If you have beneath this limit and you have the approval or recommendation of a physician then you’re not going to be prosecuted and I would abide by that determination because (Proposition) 215 is the law regardless of what they may say in Washington, D.C.,” Dikeman said."

At 9:42 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Dikeman says one thing and does another. That's the problem.

At 10:22 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Oh I don't think so. I believe that he has been very consistent. Paul is the one who "runs" the office and chooses which cases go to trial. He assigns Dikeman to do a marijuana case so he does it. My god it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Miller is just blogging anonymously so he can keep his PL case from being totally flushed. (although it seems that it is - the Notice of appeal was filed, but has not been approved to be briefed yet.)

At 12:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's right. It is Gallegos who is the District Attorney and has been since 2003 and as such HE decides what cases will go forward and which won't, unilaterally. If he did not want those medical marijuana cases filed or prosecuted, he could have directed Dikeman to drop them, and as a subordinate, he would have to.

Are the Gallegos supporters suggesting that Gallegos had no idea what was going on in his own office?
