Counting The Votes

Dan Berman might have a point here. Maybe Gallegos and Measure T didn't win?

Hey, if you can convince conservatives that there are potential problems with Diebold machines, so much the better.

At least we have a paper trail in this county.

Would have been a perfect sweep if Neely had received the 50+% vote

The manual recount begins tommorow, and is from 9am to 2pm.Same schedule for Friday. It takes place at the elections department 3033 H st in Eureka.Call 445-7678 to notify those folks that you will be there.I do believe that if you just walk in,they will put you to work, and hey you get paid for it.And I hope some you bloggers made it over to our Humboldt Voters Association table,I was a precinct officer at Redwood acres,so I didn't make it,but our turnout was good, and we'll put the results out in a press release tommorow.

Neely really took some hits in this. Marks pulled about 25 percent without union or Democratic Central Committee support. If he had gotten those endorsements he would have destroyed Flemming and gone on to a runoff with Neely.

Funny thing... he probably would have had a better chance at beating Neely than Flemming does. Too bad Patrick Riggs and the Loco Solutions traitors supported Neely.

Now she is the only choice for liberals and progressives who want to beat Arkley. What a shame.

How right you are...MARK. Once again I blew that name. I realized it at work today but forgot to change it.

Apologies, to Dan...I mean Dave, for the continual name screw ups.

K. Sopoci-Belknap said to a reporter today, when asked about legal challenges to T, "We're prepared to defend it."

She just doesn't get it.

Measure T will cost Humboldt County money it doesn't have.

All your f-cking pro-bono lawyers won't help - you stupid stupid stupid man.

You guys just have no concept of what you have done.

Interesting quote from the Eureka Reporter. Kaitlin S-P: "Although she declared herself firmly in favor of campaign finance reform, she said she’d prefer to see an expenditure limit rather than a donation limit explored.".

Interesting in that Measure T only dealt with donations, and prohibited them mostly from groups not favored by the Left (unions).

Why the interest in a expenditure limit as opposed to donations? My guess is that, since they left the unions to contribute all they want to campaigns, assuming the union has one member residing in Humboldt, they can get megabucks from the unions and skim anything over the expenditure limits into their own bank accounts as " consultant fees".

There's allegations of that having taking place with at least one of the parties involved with DU before, not that it's unheard of amongst others, as well.

This wasn't a law passed by supervisors. Measure T is the will of the voters of Humboldt County. If some corporation wants to challenge the rights of the people of Humboldt County to stand up for ourselves....bring it!

At 8:08 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If people didn't want it to pass they should have came out and voted no instead of sitting at home and whining. At my precinct, there was a total of 226 ballots cast out of 910 ballots.Horrid turnout.Worth Dikeman got 122 votes,Gallegos 102 and no for measure T had 111 votes, yes 96.The precincts at Redwood acres tend to have a more conservative turnout. If people didn't like how the election turned out, then too bad.No on T should have done their homework and brought people out to the polls. As a side,a 100%manual recount would be great.I hope conservatives join the bandwagon for better voting technologies.

At 8:14 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Measure T is the "will" of voters who don't have a clue about the law or the rationale behind it, and whose tax dollars are going to be spent (actually, wasted) on attorneys' fees for out-of-county law firm rather than on vital local needs. "Bring it on???" -- isn't that what our illustrious president said about threats of violence from the Iraqi insurgents? And look where that macho attitude got us.

At 8:18 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

wag,why didn't you motivate more people to come out and vote no,wouldn't that have saved a lot of your perceived troubles? You know, maybe people who you think "have a clue",yet they don't even know how to cast a ballot.

At 8:20 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with Mr. Esquan -- if we don't show up to vote, we deserve what we get. The turn-out was unforgivably pathetic across the state. We're doomed, I fear.

Not sure what you mean by "[my] perceived troubles." Whatever they are, we're in this together now, so they're yours as well as mine.

At 9:10 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

wag, your perceived troubles are brought on by the threats by thuglike individuals in this community who think that if they don't get their own way, tyranny of the minority is the only possible solution. The people who wanted to speak, spoke. The only alternative for these thugs is to turn to unelected judges to try to get get their own way.

At 9:18 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

expenditure limits are illegal, just like measure t. the county will be forced to spend resources for at least one round in court as primary counsel, which means big bucks no matter who offers pro bono sideshows.

by the way, local judges are elected, unlike david cobb.

At 9:20 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I hope your "recount" is countywide, mresquan, and not just the heavily democratic counties, or select precincts. Funny how concerns about voter fraud only seeks to protect certain pets.

At 9:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

David Cobb, a judge huh, never knew that.Anon 9:20,the manual recount is required by the feds.It is countywide. If you want to know how the recount is done, contact our elections officer Lyndsay Mcwilliams at the elections dept.445-7678,or show up to participate and monitor, unlike your anti-T buddies who chose not to vote.Again,it begins at 9am tommorow. So,our local judges will be making these rulings, wow this will be easier to fight than I thought.

say people,

we have a unique opportunity at Fred's site to make the considerable number of people who know a thing or two about politics to discuss local issues that just
may end up influencing more than Humboldt County policy, maybe we can help people a bit along the way. Going to war is not fun.

Believe me I know.

At 10:26 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

sure thing. first things first, make democracy unlimited submit to a democratic election.

At 10:33 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Can you explain more?

At 10:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lets see. Measure T is to be defended by Supervisors who really don't give a damn about it. And unless the Supervisors allow it, no matter how many pro-bono lawyers volunteer, they can't join the party.

How about counting these votes--

Former Humboldt County Green Party Chariman Greg Allen recieved the fewest number of votes of *any* candidate in the contested County Counsel election.

How embarassing is that!?!? I can't wait to hear the Charles Douglas spin on that one.....

Total Votes 7418

DANA SILVERNALE 995 13.41%
WILLIAM DICKINSON 958 12.91%
HANNAH CLAPSADLE 878 11.84%
SHAYE HARTY 762 10.27%
HEIDI L. CALTON 712 9.60%
J. AARON BUSALD 685 9.23%
XANDRA MANNS 683 9.21%
ERIC J. CLARKE 662 8.92%
ALICE L. WOODWORTH 608 8.20%
GREGORY P. ALLEN 452 6.09%

Allen has been pretty effectively vilified for his opposition to T. It's a shame politics has to sink to that level over a single issue disagreement.

At 3:14 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

"County Counsel" is Tammy Falor, the lawyer for the Board of Supes. "County Council" is the Green Party Steering Committee. Yet more stupidity from Anon 8:03 AM, a.k.a. Michael Smith, as if we couldn't tell the same crap spewed on his pathetic attack web page.

At 5:00 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

All this ranting and raving about control of the local Greens. While 47% of the registered voters showed up Tuesday, it looks to me only 25% of Greens did. Looks like a tempest in a teapot to me.

At 9:17 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Charles Douglas and Greg Allen have a long history of deciept and disruption in Arcata politics.

Ask yourself this-- has anyone (Sopoci-Belknap, Local Solutions, Salzman, etc) villified you for your opposition to Measure T?

For that matter, have you heard any of the Measure T supporters be anything but civbil in public discourse?

Its not that the Douglass?Allen duo are being vilified for their position on Measure T. Its that chickens are coming home to roost.

At 9:32 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Did I hear Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap call Greg Allen a racist, sexist union-basher because he gave his legal analysis of Measure T?

The personification of uncivil is Bob Ornelas. He was the one calling Measure T opponents crackpots and whackos on that same show with Kaitlin. Its also Bob Ornelas who has vilified Green candidates like Doug Thron repeatedly.

Stay in touch Bob, we haven't smelled your puke for a while now. The more you vomit on people the more popular they get. Keep it up and you just might get Greg Allen elected.

At 10:39 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

you said it. these arcata people so self-centered. measure t doesnt do anything about arcata city elections. that won't stop bob from pretending its all about his little town. i wonder if ornelas clones like dave meserve will repeal arcata election donation cap because its not good enough for queen kaitlin and kind cobb.

At 12:48 AM, Blogger Eric V. Kirk said...

"Ask yourself this-- has anyone (Sopoci-Belknap, Local Solutions, Salzman, etc) villified you for your opposition to Measure T?"

Honestly, no. I've had spirited debate, but all of it respectful.

At 7:54 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

maybe you can put salzman to work raising money to pay for the court costs to be incurred by measure t

but, no, ths county will suffer the consequences while kaitlin goes her merry way

At 10:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Kaitlin won't be going anywhere. She will continue to insist that she be paid for the work the rest of us do for free. A veritable vacuum of dollars from the progressive community into her and David Cobb's mortgage. What's that giant sucking sound...

At 1:08 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Charles Douglas and Greg Allen agree with Rob Arkley and the Eureka Chamber of Commerce--

Corporations are persons! They have rights! Obey your rulers!

Here is a good slogan for-- Eureka Greens: Standing Up For Corporate Rights.

Anon 9:32 wrote:

And I answer:

No you did not.

Measure T supporters have (correctly) said that the courts once ruled that blacks were legally slaves, that women did not have the right to vote, and that trade unions are a criminal conspiracy. That is the sad truth of the courts and "the law."

It is a shame that there cannot be civil discussion and debate.

Fred, if you want folks to continue to come here you should seriously consider deleting some of the flame war stuff, or people will stop coming here (as has happened repeatedly to other online forums).

actually kaitlin sopoci belknap did liken measure t opponents, greg allen by name, to other "activist lawyers" who backed slavery, womens denial of suffrage and union busting. she did it on kmud news and she did it again on a talk show with estele. no rewriting of history today rob.

kmud's where they do all their negative campaigning and smearing, get teh message out and then go in front of the rest of the public and claim innocence and clean campaigning

as far as Charles Duoglas saying that Michael Smith spelled council
wrong I can tell you for sure that Smith did not post that. Smith does spell words wrong sometimes, but usually his beautiful, hip editors, thankfully cover him.
