Richard Marks Gets Headline

Looks like blogspot isn't the only thing that goes down. I wanted to link to a Times- Standard article- the top of the front page headline: Everybody Loves Richard- but I can't, the T-S web site is down, at least for now.

Anyway, the article goes on to talk about the Marks voters being the wild card in the runoff between Bonnie Neely and Nancy Flemming. True, but as the article says, Flemming's got her work cut out for her if she wants to get Mark's endorsement as her vote totals where quite a bit lower than Neely's.

Marks says he'll be making an endorsement soon. I don't think it will be any surprise who the endorsement ends up going to.

I think you should hold off for a while, Richard, and suck as much out of this as you can. This should be good for at least a few good meals from each of them, and think of all the parties you'll get invited to in the meantime.

Hey, this is more than just fifteen minutes of fame. It doesn't get any better than this. Drag the endorsement process out as long as you can.

Richard ran a great campaign considering how late he came into the race. He has earned the respect of this dem. Now that the election is over, Richard - get into the boat and start paddling. We have a long way to go. You know a vote for Flemming is a vote for an Arkley Coastal Commissioner. Neely (again) for Supervisor!

the dems certainly don't deserve respect after they crapped all over richard's efforts. i look forward to any trouble he can make for those loco solutions control freaks.

and don't let neely off the hook, make her sweat, don't make it easy. make neely promise support for a county minimum wage, better public transit, police review for sheriffs, instant runoff voting and a donation cap. time to extract something while you have the leverage richard, your supporters deserve this.

10:53 said: Richard came in extremely late.

I filed my paperwork timely. I asked one labor leader (Bob Borck of the Carpenters) to sign my petition to be put on the ballot! Patrick Riggs was one of the first I e-mailed. Local Solutions knew my intentions to run before I finalized my paperwork. They chose to ignore me. Instead of informing me of my situation, they decided to destroy my campaign with rumors and disinformation. It worked. They had made their alliance with Bonnie Neely well in advance.

My bad. I thought everyone had the right to run for public office. If another Democratic candidate were running, I would not have stepped forward. I had no idea that the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee that I had once been a member (96'-99') had become a exclusive political action committee. It is all disappointing to me, a pro-union, pro labor (32year union member), successful union organizer, progressive democrat, youth volunteer, adult sports director and life long resident of the north coast would be villified by fellow Democrats. It starts local people.

I was raised by a Democratic single parent mother who raised us on union dollars as a retail clerk at the old Bazar store. My Male role models in Myrtletown were die hard Democrats and I carried their beliefs when I registered as a Democrat in 1975. I am sure they are all ashamed at what has happened to our local democratic party.

Oh well. Enough with the whinning. It is softball season! So I have an outlet. Oh yes, and your blog Fred. Thanks for the forum.

Local solutions was revealed for what they were - nothing more than a funding mechanism for Gallegos. That is why the name was created and the farcical charade was enacted during the last election. The pretense was necessary to get people to give them money.

Anyone who gave those charlatans money thinking it was going to help other candidates was defrauded of their money, used in the worst way.

Neely has perceived that the political wind is in the extremist camp and she has thrown herself in with them.

a good list. maybe the wrong target. marks should shop his issues to fleming. if he can get her to sign in blood her pledge to vote on even half of the ideas then marks should throw the election to her. i trust a conservative to keep a contract more than a neoliberal who cant/wont sign on in the first place. same problem with chris kerrigan. didnt promise to do anything concrete. its easier to meet low expectations.

At 10:27 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just for the record: I can't stand Loco Solutions. They are more about power and personal relationships than genuine progressive politics. I've learned that from trying to work with them.

Richard was a good candidate. Fairly left-wing, but also respected by working-class conservatives.

I recently endorsed Neely because I really don't like Flemming/Arkley. But I will never forgive a lot of the people who turned on Richard during the primary.

He could have beaten Bonnie in a runoff. I hope Riggs realizes that.

At 12:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Somebody should recruit Richard's better half, I believe her name is Robin, to run a write-in campaign, if she had a balanced platform she could walk a winner.

At 12:46 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

she would have had to get into the race as an official write-in before now. It's a race between two candidates. Write-in votes - no matter how many - will be disregarded.

Maybe she should run next time.

At 9:39 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Shane, it's time to grow up. Richard Marks would not have beaten Bonnie Neely in a runoff. You did a great job, so stop whining. Get back in the boat and start winning. We hope to see you back at HCDCC where as you know our business IS done in public. We hope to see Richard back, too, along with Pat Higgins, another democrat who did not receive HCDCC's endorsement even though he is a full active member. Attend Chicken by the Sea or this week's HCDCC meeting and let's make peace and take our country back.

---an HCDCC Supporter

PS - You right-wingers who are trying to encourage division amongst us patriots will not succeed. Your Mr. Bush has screwed it up, so crawl back in your holes for a few years while we try to straighten out the mess.

---would rather be gardening.

At 9:42 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

REMINDER: HCDCC made NO endorsement in either supervisorial race this year. A great many democrats did, however, endorse Bonnie Neely personally, including Congressman Mike Thompson, Senator Wes Chesbro, Assemblymember Patty Berg and others. We don't want Arkley running our town and we don't want
Bush running our country.

You consider Schwarzenegger a "vicious right- wing politician"? Boy, that's bit over the top.

At 12:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Revisit the terminators failed initiatives. "Slash and Burn" tactics. Maybe "vicious" is a bit much for Arnold. Certainly not for Bush and Cheney, and that means Arkley, and Flemming, and the other wealthy extremists who wish to run Humboldt County for their own private benefit. Does that clarify the situation for you?

"Shane, it's time to grow up. Richard Marks would not have beaten Bonnie Neely in a runoff. You did a great job, so stop whining."

I am not a child. Older people who resort to statements like "grow up" are simply relying on my youth to try and diminish the points that I make.

I've endorsed Bonnie, that should be enough for you. If I want to keep whining I will.

it's a lost cause Fred. these people are so consumed by hatred, they have lost all rational thought. anyone successful is vicious right wing, anyone with any values is an extremist right winger. if you don't march in lockstep with them you are to be hated.

what happens when Bush is out of office? Will they return to normal human status? I for one don't think so, and I don't intend to just forget what they have become. It is too bizarre.

shane,

the truth is Richard had a pretty decent platform- that was all it was- decent.

the truth is with Neely($) and Flemming($) he needed a better platform.

Now if Robin (Mark's better half) would have ran, against all three of them mind you, she would have won straight up- no november run-off.

Shane- Mark's platform was just okay. Why should local solutions crawl out on a limb for something just okay.

Your platform was damn good- and you reached out to Greens. Local Solutions blew that one.

P.S. Mresquan, Mark's platform was just okay damnit. Have I ever seen HVA put their ass out on a limb. No.

Marks should have got Chris Crawford to run his campaign.

He would have lost worse than he did with Shane for sure, but Flemming would be out to.

At 2:28 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Come to think of it if Chris Crawford ran every local republican campaign Eureka would never have to even bother with Instant Run-off Voting!

At 2:46 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

If Shane had been given the resources he requested for the campaign, I feel we would be in a runoff. Unfortunately we came up short and I nixed some campaign platform issues that Shane wanted trumped. For what it is worth, Shane did a brilliant job with what he had to work with, and I may have made some wrong decisions late in the game. Shane is not a child in any way but age. He is a natural born leader and very well spoken. It was an honor to have worked with him, even when we disagreed. If you ever meet Shane, the man in person, talk with him and you will discover a wealth of information well beyond his years.
