Yet Another D.A. Race

Something I was just made aware of this morning, as I don't frequent the Ukiah Daily Journal web page:

Looks like Mendocino County District Attorney, Norm Vroman, a card carrying Libertarian, has a challenger once again. Though I don't know that much about Vroman, as far as the goings on in his office, I do know he's faced criticism of sorts from members of the community, but last time he won by garnering over 50% of the vote in the primary, if memory serves me correct.

Looks like this time his opponent beat him in in the primary, and that leads them into a runoff. I'd be curious to see if this race gets as ugly as the Dikeman/ Gallegos race?

Normally I'd be backing Vroman, him being a fellow libertarian, but after seeing him actively backing Gallegos, I kinda wonder where his head is at. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I guess it doesn't really matter. Since I'm up here and he's down there, it's more a matter of curiousity how the race ends up anyway.

vroman deserves grief for running for a third consecutive term. libertarians are supposed to support term limits. i just hope gallegos will respect this and bow out in 2010.

I think he has been registered under three different parties in his last three elections

like gallegos, vroman has real problems. it has to get ugly Fred, when the opponent is ugly, as in filty and corrupt, even if he has a pretty facade

I didn't know that. But seriously, many libertarians might well support term limits. Myself? As I've said here before, I'm ambivalent about them.

Aside from the more techinical arguments for term limits, term limits are responsible for Wes Chesbro's eventual departure from the State Senate. They would also guarantee us Paul Gallegos' departure if four years.

But, good people have been forced to leave office, as well: Tom McClintock, for one, and if we had term limits in Congress, we could be certain that Rep. Ron Paul, the Libertarina Party's Presidential Candidate in 1988, wouldn't hold his seat now.

Term limits work both ways.

So, are you saying Vroman is filthy and corrupt, or his opponent? Just curious. I'm not all that familiar with the parties involved.

Ok. Like I said, I'm not too familiar with the principles involved. Only know that Vroman is, or was, a card carrying Libertarian.

Occasionally I'll read something in the Ukiah Daily Journal about Vroman. The last one I remember being something about Vroman refusing to prosecute some local squabble in Ukiah along the lines of some ordinance violations.

As I recall some group was pissed about something and Vroman said the D.A.'s office wasn't going to get involved and that the issue should be dealt with by the Ukiah City Attorney, or some such.

Didn't know enough about the issue to make a call on it, but, from the way the news read to me it made it sound like Vroman blew off the complainants for a legitimate complaint.

Fred,

Two words for you-Tim Stoen.

I'm not a Libertarian, but I agree with most of your views. You are not cut from the same cloth as Vroman.

Vroman was disbarred.

I've been told David Cobb was disbarred, as well, at least in Texas. That's second hand info, though.

Oh, isn't Gallegos barred from doing business in Del Norte? I thought I heard something like that.

Oh well. Nice to see at least some lawyers getting in trouble.

anon.r.mous is brilliant, what a scoop.

David C. Cobb is a proven disbarred
attorney according to the link.

Proves to me everything evil about David Cobb and the DUHC crowd.

Such brilliance wasted, look for yourself, David became an attorney when he was only 13 years old, and practiced law without a degree.

Holy Sh-t, anon.r.mous linked to the wrong David Cobb. Oh well, I am sure it was an accident.

First hand information, in this case, by the way, should be a direct quote confirmed from the target, I mean the person being reported about

David Kieth Cobb (edited)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Cobb appealing for votes at the annual Fighting Bob Fest in Baraboo, Wisconsin, September 2004 David Keith Cobb (born December 24, 1962 in San Leon, Texas) is an American lawyer and activist, and was the 2004 presidential candidate of the Green Party of the United States (GPUS).

After working as a crewman on a Gulf-coast shrimp boat, a construction worker and a waiter, Cobb graduated from the University of Houston Law school in 1993 and for several years maintained a successful private practice as an attorney in Houston, Texas.

The wikipedia used to say David Cobb is an "ex-lawyer." Several months later this was altered by Cobbite operative safe-statist and Israel apologist Ben Manski, who like Cobb is an ex-Green National Committee member.

All things being equal I might. I don't know enough about Vroman to make a judgement one way or the other.

The Libertarian Party itself has dumped support for LP candidates for various reasons over the years.

well, I don't vote for a Republican just because he or she is a Republican. Nor should someone vote for a democrat just because he or she is a dem, That's the basis of partisanship, and the cause of alot of our problems today. The idea of marching in lockstep doesn't seem to fit you. You're more expansive, and more inclusive than that, in my observation from afar.

anon.r.mous,

you should carefully examine that second link you provided, and you will see nowhere does it ever suggest that Cobb was "disbarred". That word is a common slur word used to discredit people, especially former attorneys who change careers, even more so, those who become small party politicians.

You should consider just asking D. Cobb and confirming with the bar association down there to see if they match up with their answers.

The first question you should asked if "what is his official current status". Ask them to define their answer. If you want, then ask them if he has ever been disbarred, yes or no? Then ask them to define disbarred? The legal meaning and the plain meaning. Answers you recieve will give you indicators on how to pursue the story. How you present your findings, positive, negative or somewhere in between, is for you decide.
