Indian Squabbles

Speaking of indian tribes and their casinos, interesting item in today's Sacramento Bee on how some tribes are booting members for various reasons and some of those past members aren't happy about it. One sentence caught my eye:

"Also, fewer members mean larger shares of casino profits for those who remain."

Can't help but wonder how much indian casinos have increased animosity amongst tribe members since the casinos started up?

It's true Fred, I know of one family removed from the Blue Lake Ranchia before the casino opened, and they where one of the families that got the tribe's land back in the late 70's.

It's very true. Some may have noticed the animosity I stirred up with Bear River's ruling clique. I, unfortunately, am identified by this ruling clique with tribal members out of power, ones that thought and acted like tribal leaders should, looking out for all members of the tribe.

The current ruling clique has been busy disenrolling tribal members of certain families so that they can keep political power with the ruling clique families with the added benefit of lowering revenue sharing numbers.

It is this current ruling clique headed by the Bowman family that was hostile to our Heartlands Project back when the 1995-1997 B.R. Tribal Council sponsored it that finally got the Project shut down in 1998 at the behest of the Casinor Commission's sleazeball casino financier. And recently, Bowman's current gang successfully stopped us from speaking about this stuff on KMUD radio which caved right in to the Bowman/Casino manager's gag order on us.

These people don't want you to know this stuff just like Local Solutions didn't want you to know the truth about their shady dealings. It was fated that the current Bear River leaders have become buddy-buddyies with the Local Solution/Gallegos team--like to like, birds of a feather..

the murderer's parents, the Bowman's have another son in trouble with the law.

What exactly does a $10,000 donation buy you?

That's a good question ? But I'm sure it'll buy you something.

You spend a little time at the Bear River Casino and it'll be obvious that several individuals are selling meth in and out of the casino. Maybe not on Sunday morning but late afternoons and on into the night.

Fred:

This isn't really related to anything, but I want to know what you think of Ron Paul. I know you usually focus on local issues, but I'm just curious how you feel about him.

Correct that to say "you spend a little time at any Indian Casino locally and you'll see people selling meth." and you'll be right on.

Bear River needs to clean up its act. Get rid of the murderer's parents. You feel safe at Bear River? Trust them to park your car? Not to follow you home at night and stab you in the heart for $50? The murderer's parents who are in charge of the Casino couldn't keep their son from doing that, what makes you think they can stop an employee, or fellow tribe member from doing just that?

I think that California needs to make it legal and watch the casinos on the rez go boom.

Anyone interested in the practice known as Tribal Disenrollment, should read "A paper trail of tears," in the current (August) issue of Harper's. If, as Steve Lewis has indicated, the practice is taking place here in Humboldt County, let's hope that the disenrollments are exposed and challenged.

Not so easily done. Especially when the tribal enrollment officer is one of ruling gang that wants to keep their ruling family voting power base as in B.R.'s case. How do tribal members buck the system if they aren't elected or appointed members?

Victims of disenrollment have started an organization called the American Indian Rights and Resource Organization. Part of its mission is to lobby the Congress.

Spend a little time in Eureka or Manila and you'll see people selling meth too. What of it?

Well, Paul, you are supposed to be putting them away for a really long time, We don't want to see meth dealers in our neighborhoods.

What about John McGinnis a few days ago. Beat the crap out of ump at softball game. Does he lose his job as GM for Casino?

At 5:13 AM, Blogger Steve Lewis said...

McGinnis is the one who told KMUD not to let Bear River tribal member Don Brenard or me or former B.R. Vice-Chair Wayne Moon speak about the Heartlands Project's connections to Bear River. This is after current B.R. Chairman Leonard Bowman wrote a letter in the E.R. claiming there never was a Heartlands Project and a bunch of other flat out lies to discredit all the work Don and Wayne did for years volunteer without pay. Cheap shot by the Bowmans at these B.R. tribal members who wanted to see the tribe regain thousands of acres of former tribal land through the Heartlands Project.

That current B.R. leaders are willing to destroy the tribe's chances of such major land recovery shows the character of the current B.R. leaders, now in league with our most stalwart and upright D.A.

I've mentioned Congressman Ron Paul (R- Texas)here a few times over the years. Ron Paul, the 1988 Libertarian candidate for President, has been in Congress for some time. If anyone wants to get an idea of how a libertarian would be in congress, they need look no further than Ron Paul.

Sure, some libs might disagree on an issue here or there, but overall he's pretty much in there.

McGinnis contacted Gallegos after the incident and Gallegos started making personal inquiries immediately. Bet you that 10K donations gets the guy a free ride.

At 9:54 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Steve: What do you think will happen to McGinnis?

At 9:56 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think that should of spent the 25 grand on the necessary ammunition and firepower to help succeed in taking back their land from the white man who forced them onto the reservation in the first place.

At 10:46 AM, Blogger Steve Lewis said...

Then they should've backed our Heartlands Project which aimed to do precisely that.

I didn't know about the McGinnis softball incident. I don't know how that will play out. I have heard that Paul recused Dikeman from dealing with the Bowman's son's case but that may be just a rumor.

At 10:58 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No - its not a rumor. The Bowmans called Gallegos in Hawaii and Gallegos had Dikeman removed from prosecuting his other son. Too bad that Gallegos hasn't figured out that GAllegos himself has a conflict. Probably won't call the attorney general as justice is clearly bought in this county these days.

At 11:11 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

These days? Buying "justice" is not a new thing, especially in Humboldt County.

At 11:22 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah but its so damn obvious now - nobody even tries to cover it up. It has become a good thing to the "progressives" (or as I read elsewhere aka regressives.)

At 12:11 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

It's always been obvious.

At 2:33 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Not like back when Lewis was sheriff. There was an honest cop for you.

At 3:54 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Let's hear some more examples of "justice bought" ?!

Not just rumor but something that rises above mear rumor.

Someone should follow the McGinnis assault case. Bur I guess that's kind of obvious.

oh, first terry farmer was the devil, now dennis lewis? He wasn't particularly popular with the rank and file, but i have never heard anyone call him bought and paid for - richard.

this is how you cover for gallegos? why can't he just stand on his own?
