More Endorsements

So, the Central Labor Council endorsed Bonnie Neely. The Democratic Central Committee endorsed LeVallee, Glass, Kuhnel and Abrams for Eureka City Council, and then backed Prop 89, the Clean Money Initiative, and opposed Prop 90, eminent domain reform.

These endorsements are so predictable, although the Times- Standard article on the Democratic Central Committee mentions there being "much debate" on Prop 89, which surprised me. I'm not really pointing a finger, though. I figure I'm fairly predictable myself.

Let me predict the rest of the Democratic Central Committee's positions on the upcoming ballot initiatives, their decisions for those having been rescheduled to their October meeting:

I say they recommend a YES on all the remaining initiatives, the one exception being Prop 83, which deals with sex offenders. That'll likely be YES, as well, but there could be some lefty arguments that might arise to lead to a NO vote, or at least some debate on the issue.

We'll see if I'm right after their October meeting.

They ignored Mark Wheetley, who has been a good dem, done a good job on the council, and is someone they should be proud of to endorse. What's his crime?

That drooling wierdo Bobby Harris has been worming his way in there for years as a nonvoting associate member, he convinced enough of them to back off of making a second pick.

Hmmmm...what a surprise that they supported the same "slate" as the Greens and Local Solutions!

It's because Loco has taken over both the Dem and Green central committees. Resitance is futile, we will be assimilated, not.

I find it hard to believe that the majority of people in Eureka want their council to be made up of a group of people who think the same and who are lead by a PAC. What makes the council good is when there is diversity. Electing a "slate" of people who are single-minded does not seem (to me) like it will benefit the ENTIRE community.

At 11:16 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Give me a break. You think Leonard, Jackson and Wolford bring diversity? Remember they drank the Arkley cool aid when the all took the phone call to through public process out the window.

At 11:20 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Boy, it sure is clear that the "throw out the public process" comment has been widely distributed by Local Solutions as the buzz word to repeat over and over and over and over and over until people will believe it. Too bad it's not true.

Larry Glass said "We do not have a homless prolblem".The city community develpment department report in 2003 "there are 900 homeless, 372 in homeless shelter, 427 visibly living in street locations". Iwonder what he would consider a problem...
Peter LaVallee said he did not vote for the ERTN on the Calpine issue. The Council never did vote on the ERTN presented to the City, they left town before they were to vote on this document.
Ron Kuhnel said he is for "social Justice" anyone care to take a shot at what that means?

Every election, it seems I have to break the party line on at least one initiative. WEll, I'm thinking 86 is going to be the one this year. I'll be posting something about it in the next few days. But I'm curious as to how local groups are falling on that issue.

I don't need a PAC to tell me what I see and hear. I pay attention to what happens in the City Council because it is important to me... as is public process.

At 3:45 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

But see, just by using the term "public process" you identify yourself as one of the PAC's brainwashed lakeys. Sorry, but Cobb and his crew have pounded that term too many times for me to believe that anyone would come to that idea independently. So whether you NEED them to tell you what to think or not, they have done it already...

Neither Leonard or Walford asked for the hdccc endorsement. They asked for their support as a matter
of course but neither expected their support either. They showed alot more class than did the members of hdccc.

Interesting that La Vallee isn't crowing about his endorsement by the Humboldt County Greens last weekend. Drove all the way to Garberville to get it and then doesn't admit to it. Be a man Peter and acknowledge your endorsements.

LaValle and we get more shelters for drunks , homeless and released prisoners ( that's his full time job . Go to ; RCAA HUMBOLDT COUNTY PETER LAVALLE ) - and Goldfish Jackson and we get the same old crap we have had here for four years .More of nothing . By the way , Neely , Smith , Rodoni is with the RCAA screwing up this town like , LaValle .

Everyone can laugh at poor , Jerry but , he'll get my vote . He's cleaned up more Meth houses in 6 months from , Eureka than LaValle & Goldfish have done in their entire terms . Just ask , THE CAPTAIN at the E.P.D. I watched one of his public nuisance trials at Superior Court in , Eureka . He was suing some crack head landlord for renting to meth and crack dealers . It's on public record at Superior Court. He's a 215 holder so , the Media is scared . Stupid , I'd say of the t.S. & The reporter.Same ole' farts running the paper .

Wrong! Virginia Bass and Mike Jones voted to approve a Calpine exclusive right to negotiate.

Calpine left on their own accord before ever coming up for a final City Council vote.

Geez R. Trent, if you spout propaganda, at least write accurate truth and not partial truth.

Think that's bad. Try getting the comments e-mailed to you. You get the comment and often might have no idea what they're referring to, since the subject they commented on isn't mentioned.

If someone comments on a post that's not on this main page, I generally just ignore it. I'm not going to go through all the archives just to find where they made their comment.

If I recall correctly, at the December 16th 2003 Eureka City Council meeting Viginia and Mike voted for the Calpine ERTN. Chris and Marybeth voted against it and Lavallee broke the tie since Jeff was absent. That vote sent the ETRN back to City staff to find a way to get more control over the process for the City.

That ERTN was to come back to the Council in March of 2004. Calpine left before the vote.

As for thinking the term "public process" being invented by Local Solutions you don't understand democracy. I could care less about PACs but I do care about having a say in local government. I read the agendas and attend Council meetings when issues that I have an interest in are before the Council. I comment when I feel it is appropriate and I expect my comments to be considered.

I do not appreciate Mike Jones being tired of public comment or Virginia thinking those who speak are only a vocal minority. In fact both of them walked out during public comment at a special Council Meeting on their Visioning document earlier this year. They had more important things to do and left the meeting without adjournment, before comment was through and leaving the Council without a quorum.

That is not good public process.

At 1:40 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I am tired of hearing about the public process. If you attend meetings of any level of government around here, unless there is a hot button issue that has been stirred up by special interests, you are lucky to find ten people in attendance, if that. I've attended Supervisor's meeting where outside of the press and staff, there was not another person in the audience. So when these lazy smucks who so carry on about the public process get off their couches, leave the glow of their monitors and show up at meetings, only then I will begin to care what they saw, otherwise quit whining.

At 1:55 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, we should thank the Supes for moving public comment to the middle of their meeting.

I attend. I comment. I don't wait for sommeone to tell me to do so.

At 3:05 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

to add to 12:38,it was Mike Jones who said that hearing any more public comments regarding the balloon tract was unnecessary because he already made his decision. When council said no,he eventually wiggled in with a reduction of public comment. It was at the beginning of the Feb.9th council meeting.

anon 12:48, Kerrigan was "ill" at the meeting where LaVallee cast the tie-breaking vote. (Dec 17, 03)

http://archives.eurekareporter.com/archive/fp-12170304.htm

LaValley falsely states that his vote "sent Calpine packing" which it did NOT. The process continued until Calpine decided to pull out. (March 17, 04)

Interesting that memories get fuzzy in an election year.

Thanks for the correction on who was there.

If the Council voted yes on December 16, 2003 Calpine would be here today. It was Peter's vote that stopped them in their tracks. They never recovered.

At 3:52 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Mike has a distaste for lesbians and peacocks.

"Two weeks ago someone broke into my ATV trailer and took some wrenches," said Bud Nees, a retired postal worker who has lived in the neighborhood for 34 years. "My renters' window in his car was smashed, and nothing is ever done. But when they use city resources to hunt down a bird -- the only nuisance is [Mike Jones], and he doesn't represent the people in his neighborhood. He didn't ask any of us what we thought."

3:49, you're confused. The process CONTINUED for three more months, Calpine pulled out when they realized there was not enough public support for their project. Peter's vote didn't push them out!

Once again, the Local Solutions (Cobb, Salzman, Buettner, etc.) crowd has some of their facts correct. Chris Kerrigan was "sick" that December meeting.

Mayor LaVallee voted to sent the ETRN back to City staff, not to "kill" the motion as he proclaims in his website and press releases.

Mayor LaVallee voted to continue negotiations with Calpine.

12:46 - who sold out?

All the facts were never presented to make an informed decision.

There was never a vote by the City Council.

At 8:25 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry. You are wrong. That vote on December 16th, 2003 was to enter into and exclusive right to negotiate with Calpine. A binding agreement.

The reason they left in March of 2004 was not only because of public sentiment but the proposed health and safety study requirement of the the BOS.

At 10:23 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm no Stunich, but the "right to negotiate" is no binding agreement.
It's a right to negotiate, compromise, deal, discuss, confer, bargain, settle, cooperate, etc.
How is that binding?
