Berg Vs. Reed

OUCH! Oh... I guess it wasn't that bad.

Finally managed to remember to watch one of the candidate forums on KEET TV. This was the first time I'd actually seen Libertarian candidate, Tom Reed, although I've spoken on the phone with him once or twice. He looked different than I expected, although I couldn't tell you why.

For once I wish the Republican candidate showed up. It would have diverted some of the attention, rather than having it all focused on two people.

I'll give Patty Berg the win, as far as presentation goes. Tom Reed seemed obviously, if not nervous, then at least not used to being in front of cameras and the public eye. He made it through the whole thing and deserves credit. If that had been me, you would have seen the literal deer in the headlights, as I tend to freeze up in the public eye.

Reed's answers seemed to be doctrinaire libertarian. One thing I found distracting, if not irritating, was his preceding answers with, Libertarians believe... I understand that many LP candidates think they should be selling the LP, but first and foremost you have to sell yourself. If you sell yourself well, your libertarian ideas might be accepted a little easier. He needs to start out with, I believe.

I also found it somewhat embarrassing him saying Patty Berg has been doing a good job. Regardless of how you feel about the incumbent, if you think they're doing a good job, what's the point in challenging her? Instead of doing that, he might have done better just by just noting where he agrees with her and how the voters would be better off with him in charge where he disagrees with Berg.

Anyway, overall not too bad and perhaps Tom will be a little more comfortable should there be another forum before the election.

The question I have now is, what happened to Republican candidate, Ray Tyrone? He showed up at the forums last time around.

It wasn't just that he was nervous, he wasn't prepared. Berg is worthless, and he didn't call her on anything. It was painful to watch.

I'll have to admit to wincing a few times myself.

Oh, I meant to add that both the Times- Standard and Eureka Reporter were pretty easy on both of them.

Oh#2: The above comment was referring to the coverage in today's papers, not Driscoll and Baetly who asked questions during the forum.

One of them already e-mailed me regarding the above comment.

On the news, they showed the "lib" guy going on about.... licensing, tagging and micro-chipping all pets???

Was i hallucinating or did he actually say that???

???

On what news? I don't recall seeing that anywhere.

I thought Batley and Driscoll did a very good job with their questions.

Was the nervousness sweat? It's hotter than hell under those studio lights. God help anyone who chooses to wear a suit.

I did like his suit. Not his stand on tagging every animal in the US - that seems anti-Libertarian to me.

Yeah: on channel 3 news, the "libertarian " guy was harping about having every pet registered, licensed, tagged and micro-chipped!

HELLO!?!?! : Here's another example of freaky weirdos subverting the true goals of a political party... He's a plant... a disinfo agent from the Neocon/ Zionist SS and he is attempting to infiltrate and subvert.

Libertarian??? More like GESTAPO!

OBEY OBEY

Typical .

Controlled opposition. No real choices anymore.

These clowns like reed exist only to subvert the legitimate voting process and cast doubt on "indy' candidates.

I don't know that I'd consider pet registration and/ or tagging, a libertarian issue either way.

A lot of animal advocates propose similar things. I don't know if Tom is an animal advocate, or not.

I thought he was referring more to the registration and monitoring of all animals - read cattle , horses, etc that all the ranchers oppose and will tell you is a catastrophe inthe making.

Now Fred when you run for office ask the bloggers to coach you so you won't look the proverbial deer/headlights guy. Debating takes getting used to-practice, like in a class or having someone runa few scenarios with you.

President Bush could use one of those guys himself-a coach. ok he needs more than that and its beside the point.

We'll help you Fred!

The guy seemed nice, and genuine enough, bu the wasn't ready for prime time. Patty was, but she really doesn't deliver on the promise she projects so skillfully. Except in the area of aging.

Patty is a stooge that will say anything to keep on the government dole. And this is from a fellow dem who is getting tired of all her empty rhetoric.

At 3:34 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

empty rhetoric?? You are NOT a fellow Dem unless it stands for "demented". Maybe you should be have been present when Patty gave her presentation to the Board of Supes, there was more to it than reported.

3:34pm tell us what great rhetoric Patty shared with the Supes? She has done less for Humboldt County than any other 1st District Assembly person. What type of legislation has she brought forward that has helped Northern California as far as Jobs, Affordable Housing, Business Infrastrucure, Homeless, Crime Prevention and overall Northern California Health Care issues. Yeah, the dignity to die is an issue, but that the great main message? I wish Virginia Strom-Martin was not termed out.

Ask most anyone in County govt. they'll tell you she has done jack

there you go again 3:34 working without tools. All you can do to a fellow dem who disagrees with you is call them demented. How adult.

We wouldn't need the "Right to Die" if we had affordable health care. We might even keep going until The End...if there wasn't some conspiracy to keep the poor and uninsured also frail and unable to revolt! Its a disgrace-Patty Berg has been worthless to her constituents! Why can't there ever be a viable alternative choice?

Okay Richard Marks-this is where you come in as the write-in candidate!!

I'll vote for anyone but Patty.

Patty Berg is with Neely . Together they want to dominate Eureka with their grant money and not allow the people to run this town . They are both responsible for the needle exchange gig with your tax dollars . Now we got every junkie in California flocking to , Eureka for free needles and housing all in the name of recovery . DO NOT ELECT ANYONE TIED TO THE RCAA . The RCAA paid these people nearly 8 ( eight ) million to bring druggies and the like into , Eureka in 2003 and probally much more than that last year .
