What's In A Name?

Apparently not much.

The Eureka Reporter takes a look today at the Eureka Civic Association.

Most of what the Reporter details about the ECA is no surprise, with perhaps the exception of some of the members and supporters. I hadn't realized that ECA co- founder, Neal Latt, is from Orleans. I figured he was from Eureka or Arcata. Their largest contribution to date comes from Dr. Ken Miller, in Mckinleyville. Now that's local control!

Why'd they bother calling it the Eureka Civic Association? Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to call it the Humboldt Civic Association?

Neal Latt is a farmer from Orleans who frequents Old Town and Henderson center via the Farmer's Markets. You know, the pulse of Eureka.

Neal also has a place near Henderson Center. Great guy, good mind, big heart.

I thought the point of ECA was to present a Eureka-centered alternative to Loco Solutions manipulating our politics. Too bad they failed at that task so quickly, getting mobbed up with these moronic little Cobbites like Latt.

“What I feel, and have felt for many years, is missing in Eureka is an organization that comes together to promote the candidacy of well-qualified individuals who will reach out to the entire community and represent the whole community equally,” Ogden explained.

Oh, come now....your endorsements do not represent the entire community. How can you possibly think that. Please, just say it....our political endorsements are for people who think and act the way we do. This county is being torn apart with political polarization and groups like ECA and CREG and Local Solutions are just as bad as HELP and the Humboldt Taxpayers League. There is going to have to be a middle ground idea for this thing to work. Forget the political tug-of-war and sit down at a central table and start working together.
All of the political action groups from both sides are just egos gone wild. What's it going to take to steer this ship into the future.
Work together, not against each other.

Once again -- just like Local Solutions... Eureka Civic Association (ECA - almost sounds like another Rotary of Kiwanis’s club) is NOT made up of local residents.

Their financial contributions are NOT local.

Their only purpose is to stop any and all development in Eureka.

Gee thanks guys!

I find it amusing that the current Mayor LaVallee stated last night in the debates that he was against capping and big-box development on the waterfront.

Yet he supported the Target project.

Target is capped and a big-box development on the waterfront.
Costco is capped and a big-box development on near the waterfront (just like the Marina project).
Adorni Center is capped and on the waterfront.

Make your mind up. Are we against capping or against the Arkley's?

How about ECA purchasing one of the many empty sites on the Eureka waterfront and proposing their own development?

Then ECA can bring living wage jobs with benefits and affordable housing to Eureka. At least then it wouldn't be another pathetic attempt to be Local Solutions, CREG, etc, etc,

Is this the same Neal Latt who writes at least one letter-to-the-editor to different local media publications each month?

The Neal Latt who wrote “The Arkley/North Coast Co-op Connection” complaining that the Arkley’s financed the new Co-Op building, which the Arkley’s are losing money in a sweetheart deal to the Co-Op (letter dated 9-18-06).

Neal Latt who wrote against Home Depot on the Balloon Tract in “Crawford's Ideas On Tax Are Right On — Up To A Point” (8-03-06).

Neal Latt who spoke out against Nathan Ruston and Rob Arkley’s Eureka Reporter in his letter “Journalism, With Filters” (7-10-06).

Neal Latt whose letter-to-the-editor was not printed because of his “factual error” in stating that Rob Arkley called four of the Eureka City Councilmembers and told them to kill the master plan process. His “Reader says he understands” letter wasn’t printed because Mr. Latt’s claim wasn’t true (5-08-06).

Could this be the same Neal Latt who wrote a “My Word" column in the Eureka Times Standard titled, “Why I Cannot Support The Marina Center Development” (5-02-06)?

The same Neal Latt who wrote, “Guest Column Contained Multiple Errors” concerning After reading Lawrence LaBranche’s letter regarding Citizens for Real Economic Growth (CREG) on 4-20-06.

This is only the past six months that I could document. I’m sure there’s many more articles in other local papers, like Mr. Latt selling his beets at the Henderson Center Farmer’s Market.

We could go on and on regarding Neal Latt and his obvious biased radical opinions, but what good would that do? Is it a big surprise that another radical liberal PAC has been formed to promote the “slate” of regressive candidates and primarily financed by Dr. Ken Miller of McKinleyville?

Follow the money folks. These PACs and their supported/endorsed candidates have only with one mandate from Bill Pierson – “Stop Home Depot!”

No one takes Neal Latt seriously, trust me.
