NIMBYism is alive and well...

in Arcata, which the Times- Standard points out in today's editorial. Nobody seems to want The Endeavor in their back yard. The Times- Standard is right in pointing out Arcata shouldn't have the NIMBY label pasted on them alone.

They could have included Eureka. Looks like someone complained about one of those clean and sober houses in their backyard, one on Buhne Street in Eureka generating at least one complaint. Jerry Droz, were you the one complaining?

Thing is, I see both sides. Nobody likes the kind of traffic places like The Endeavor or the clean and sober houses generate, but those people need to eat and sleep somewhere, don't they. What the heck you going to do?

I have no idea.

N.I.M.B.Y. no longer applies. Now it's N.O.P.E (nowhere on planet earth.)

As I wrote in my 11/13 post, The Root of All Evil the problem is you will certainly attract more homeless and inevitably there will be problems in that area. I, for one, don't want it in my neighborhood. I want my kids to be able to freely play without being afraid they will pick up a hypodermic needle or be harassed by a drunk or worse.

remember years back when their was that homeless encampment out on the south spit?

Lets put some portable toilets out their and do it right! If they want to colonize the south Jetty, let them!

Look at what the colonization of Manila and Samoa did! Sure, the people are all related and noone poops solid feces, but 80% percent of them have some sort of material over their heads!

Halitosis, if you are afraid of your kids picking up hypodermic needles, then keep them the hell away from Nancy Flemming. She seems to find them where ever she goes.

It's not fair to call this NIMBY. Talk to the homeowner who had the city buy his house because of the continuous crap he had to deal with being located nearby (and when I say crap, I literally mean crap... and that's just the mentionable stuff). This was a few years ago.

Labeling something NIMBY implies an irrational fear. The things happening in the vicinity are quite real. That neck of the woods is not pretty, folks. Ask to see a summary of police reports for that area. Ugh.

I'd like to see the TS spend some time down there and see how many single moms actually use the place. They are AFRAID to go there.

Sounds like a Captain Buhne expose possibility!
