Robyn Blumner?

I don't believe I'd ever heard of her before reading her column that was published in the Eureka Reporter today. I'm not sure the E/R posts opeds by syndicated columnists on their web page. I didn't see a link to this one, but a quick Yahoo search found the commentary in question.

The Eureka Reporter titled the op- ed differently: Milton Friedman Made Right Call On Legalizing Drugs. You can imagine how seeing such a title in a local paper would grab this libertarian's attention.

It will be interesting to see if anyone writes a letter in rebuttal. Perhaps our very own Prohibitionist from the November 24th Illegals thread?

I'll have to keep an eye out for more of Ms. Blumner's work.

Legalizing and taxing, while the common sense solution, MUST be combined with other elements of prevention and treatment. Like we have minimum age requirements before someone can buy alcohol, like education of young people on the downside, and while most people can drink responsibly, there are those who are unable to do drugs in moderation. A partial overhaul of this issue is in some ways worse than the existing problem.

Perhaps. Even libertarians differ on just how to go about ending prohibition.

Myself? I'm not sure either. I do believe one thing, though: People shouldn't be incarcerated (or bothered by the criminal justice sytem at all) simply for something they ate, drank or smoked.

If they blame other criminal acts on what they ate, drank or smoked, fine. But that doesn't negate the other criminal acts they committed.

Bottom line is; the guy who sits at home over the weekend smoking pot and snorting cocaine, and then goes to work the rest of the week and earns his own way, should be left alone.

Yes but the bureacrats need to hassle people so they can feel in control. For in micromanaging other peoples lives it saves them teh psychological trauma of looking within themselves and finding the decayed remains of what used to be their soul.

Yes, making anonymous (and unoriginal) blog comments is so much more productive.
