Warning, Warning!

First time I ever saw one of these. I was checking weather.com and noticed a severe weather alert. Clicked on that figuring it would be something about the rain that's on the way but got this instead:

COASTAL AREAS FROM THE CALIFORNIA- MEXICO BORDER TO CAPE FLATTERY WASHINGTON

...TSUNAMI ADVISORY STATEMENT...

NO - REPEAT NO - WATCH OR WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE COASTAL AREAS FROM THE CALIFORNIA-MEXICO BORDER TO CAPE FLATTERY WASHINGTON

FOR INFORMATION ONLY - ESTIMATED TIMES OF INITIAL WAVE ARRIVAL CHARLESTON- OR 1131 PST NOV 15 SAN FRANCISCO- CA 1223 PST NOV 15 CRESCENT CITY-CA 1138 PST NOV 15 SAN PEDRO-CA 1245 PST NOV 15 SEASIDE-OR 1139 PST NOV 15 LA JOLLA-CA 1254 PST NOV 15 ASTORIA-OR 1203 PST NOV 15

Notice it says "No watch or warning is in effect". Was this a test? Was there an earthquake somewhere. Haven't checked the news yet this morning so we'll see. Still...kinda interesting, to me, anyway.

I saw that this morning too. If it isn't a warning, why put out that type of information? Pre or post warning maybe? Got me.

There was an earthquake in Japan. Ironic, I got called by HSU last night for a telephone survey about earthquakes, tsunami warnings, disaster preparedness. I can't find my tinfoil hat, so I'm not sure if this is related.

CNN Headline News carried a report a few minutes ago. There was an earthquake in Japan earlier today.

The original fears were that there would be a 6-foot "tidal wave" (I put that term in here for FUN) that would hit near Japan.

It turns out that the actual "wave" was only about a foot and a half there, and probably not noticeable here.

I'm glad the experts and their systems are fine-tuning their warning capacity. Though imperfect, they keep trying to get it right.

Sort of like the rest of us.

I could see a warning like that to be a bit unnerving if you lived down in King Salmon or Fields Landing: "This is a tsunami alert...but nothing to worry about...".

KHSU reported 5.9 feet.
