Humboldt Volunteers

I was doing one of my occasional checks with Sitemeter, the outfit that runs my hit counter, to see from whence people found their way to this blog. I believe it was the first time I saw someone directed here by doing a Google search for the 570th Military Police Company, California Army National Guard. I had to check into that further.

On the search results page I simply found reference to a post I made here long ago about the 570th. Looking at some of the other things that came up in the search, I found a web page with info on California's military history. That led to a page that listed a number of the citizen militia groups that were formed in the past. Humboldt Volunteers was among them.

I'd heard of the Humboldt Volunteers before, but it must have slipped by me that this was the group that killed all the indians in the Indian Island Massacre back in 1860. I guess the outfit was disbanded the same year they were formed because of the outrage over the massacre.

You can read the account of the Humboldt Volunteers and the massacre on the California State Military Museum web page.

Let's reform the Humboldt Volunteers and send them Iraq.

No doubt many Arkley and other long time illustrious residents' ancestors were card carrying "Volunteers". There must be a record somewhere of the membership, after all they were paid. I'd be more than glad to fund the archivist who can look up and publish the names and their descendants.

But, of course: The Arkleys were involved. I should have known that.

Involved? Hell, they led the charge.

However, when the deed was done, the Volunteers were not disbanded as reported. They were all let go in a downsizing with no severance but excellent letters of recommendation.

Sorry Fred, its nothing personal toward the good burghers of this Eden on earth. The Arkleys are just today's poster children for the rugged pioneers who intently took, as fast as they could, as much as they could. Especially including the lives of anyone or anything who was between them and whatever they wanted.

Sorta like the folks nowadays who want to take apart the police department so no one can keep them from stealing what they want, dealing whatever dope they want to deal, and messing up any body who gets it their way.

Hey, I just noticed something. All of you are dumber than shit! Yes Fred, that includes you as well although you get credit for effort this time.

Is it me? The blog comments have turned into wholly unreadable crap. I thoroughly enjoyed the social and political banter that sometimes ended with the parties agreeing to disagree.
And sometimes, people agreed. Now it's just Nick Bravo this and Charles Douglas/Barbara Shultz that and Down with the Arkleys and piss on the cops and blah, blah blah.

Sorry folks, the blog thrill is now gone.

Yeah! Why don't we all be good lemmings and let Fred, Buhne, Heraldo, Eric et al pick the topics and just follow along.

That's right, 11:15. We're all part of The Conspiracy. I'm sure cyberspace thanks you for making sure we all don't get hoodwinked by the bloggers.
