Is Nancy One Of The Five?

Still no word on just who is in the running for city mangager of Rio Dell. All we know, from today's Times- Standard, is there are five applicants. I'll have to admit I normally wouldn't be much interested in who gets the job but when the rumor arose that our very own Nancy Flemming was among the applicants, that certainly piqued my interest.

James Faulk threw out Flemming's name a couple days ago in his Bully Pulpit column. I don't know if he just picked up the rumor from Cap'n Buhne's blog, or he has other inside information. I mentioned elsewhere that Buhne never said who he was referring to when he posted the question as to which past Board of Supervisor candidate was applying for city manager of Rio Dell.

It seems someone threw out Flemming's name, others assumed that must be it and picked up and ran with it. Seems to me Flemming's not the only past BOS candidate around here. Of course, I could be wrong, but I can't see Nancy working in Rio Dell. Too much of a disruption of lifestyle.

C'mon Nancy, fess up. Are you applying for the job?
**************
I always wonder why government officials are so tight lipped about who's applying for certain jobs. I suppose I could see it if there are a whole bunch of applicants, but five, as in the case of Rio Dell city manager?

Then again, we've seen here on the blogs how some people will attack others for no apparent reason. I guess we'd be hearing a lot more of that in the blogosphere if the names of applicants for Rio Dell manager and Eureka Police Chief were known.

Still, it would almost seem appropriate in the interests of open government for citizens to have an look at who wants to work for them. Or would it?

I guess I should just take my own advice that I gave others after the polls closed last November and they still had a lot of vote counts and recounts to do and some were biting at the bit to know what the results were: Just relax, move on, and wait for the results to be tabulated.

Ok. I'm relaxed.

Well it would certainly put a spotlight on Rio Dell if she was given the position. Along with Nancy coming down there from up here,so would her rivals.Folks would certainly be paying more attention to the doings in Rio Dell than they may have before, asking for council meetings to be televised, and so on.So in that regards it could be a good thing. If she took the job,you can bet that she'll be watched like a hawk.It may not be worth it for her, don't think she needs the money and incentives that come with it that bad.And she has a whole clan of folks down there who share her political philosophy.

Like I said before, Fred, I heard Nancy was seeking the position about a week before Buhne's post. It's definitely a rumor that was going around, and it didn't start with Buhne's post.

Since the mayor of Eureka was a ceremonial post, what makes Nancy think she has any of the qualifications to run the day to day operations of a city? I think they are just throwing out her name as something to do until the next "big" thing comes along.

Word on the street is Rodoni's gonna ride into town and bitch slap the citizens like a midlevel bureaucratic whore. If that fails, he'll continue to ride PL's tip.

True. I won't blame it on you if it's turns out to be a rumor. Won't give you credit if it's true, either. :-)

If a city revealed the names of mere job applicants, it would see a lot fewer people apply. When was the last time you applied for a job, Fred? You don't usually want your current employer to know you are fishing for a job elsewhere.

Plus, are the residents going to be voting for the best candidate? No, the public is not evaluating every candidate. That's what the city council was elected to do. The public can voice their opinion on the final candidate.

Point well made, 11:41!

Of course, Heraldo. Hey, you're just here to help!

If they are properly using the merit system to hire the new manager, they have to hire the most qualified individual. If they hire Nancy over someone with experience they will be treading in litigation territory. Ive never heard of it being done with a city manager though.

A City Council can hire whomever they want to be a manager. Its up to the voters to see that they hire qualified individuals. Eureka hired Tyson for its City Manager, after it fired Harvey Rose. If memory serves me correctly they just sorta quickly stuffed Tyson into the position without advertising the position.

Im not saying Tyson is a bad manager, but on paper he certainly would not have been as qualified as the other individuals who would have wanted to manage a city of Eureka's size. Rose was a professional City Manager with a long resume and decades of experience. He wasnt the right fit for the council because he was an active City Manager and in many cities thats what a council wants, but not Eureka. So they replaced him with local boy Tyson.

Just take a look at Fred's ardent support of Bill OReally on Heraldos blog. Time for you to turn in your Libertarian voting card Freddie. Your creep factor just went up tenfold.

Fred's no Libertarian! He accepts government money and supports sex fiends like O'Reilly! Fred's an odd mix of socialist and pervert.

Fred worships at the feet of the Great Owl. All those trips south weren't to heal his wife. It was a cover for his visits to Bohemian Grove.

Will Nancy Flemming finally just retire, please? Same for that do-nothing Wes Chesbro.

I heard today that Nancy was only consulted on how to choose a city manager. Rumor mill is a-pumping.

Maybe Fred fits in better with the Natural Law Party nowadays. On your smartvoter page from a few years back Fred, you seem like much more of a lefty than I gather from your writings.

I haven't seen any reason to brag about being a member of any party. BFD you're a libertarian, let's get on with something more interesting.

Wesley is doing everything to prep for a run for Patty's seat in two years when she terms out. Fundraising like mad, threatening other possible candidates, etc. While I like him, has he ever held a normal job?

Fred you have really lost it this time.

Oh, now that really hurts. And these comments coming after a thread on the city manager of Rio Dell?

Hey Fred what did I do!!? I liked your philosophy spiel over on that smartvoter page. I just had the feeling that you were once more of a left leaning lib.
Back to the original topic though,I'd like to see Fred as the Rio Dell city manager.

When the extent of a guys Libertarianism is opposition to the removal of incandescent light bulbs, you know he is a phony.

Nope.

He is the golden child of the party.

Wesley is a done deal for the assembly....so much for representative government. the last job he had was running the Arcata recycling center in the '70's...it went broke and he got grants.

Never turned a dime in progits in his life.

But, having said that, he has gotten some things done in the district...just those that the party leadership allows.

Esquan wrote, "I just had the feeling that you were once more of a left leaning lib.".

Weren't you hanging around year, was it last year(?), when I discussed left vs. right libs and where I might fall in that regard?

I forget what issues I used for an example but I believe I ended up leaning right on just over half the issues. Also, given that I was registered Republican my entire life until '92, that would certainly suggest I lean right.

I'll have to take another look at the Smartvoter page. I forget just what I put on there.

Esquan suggests, "Maybe Fred fits in better with the Natural Law Party nowadays".

Well, for one thing, Natural Law is no longer an officially recognized party in California, I believe.

Second; I don't know all that much about the NLP but the impression I've gotten from what little attention I've paid to them is they're just another party that wants to control your life and solve all society's woes via government. They just think they can do it all using science.

Lastly, esquan writes, "I'd like to see Fred as the Rio Dell city manager.".

Gee, thanks esquan. I could certainly use the money. Problem is, I can hardly manage my own affairs, much less the affairs of a small town.

Nancy Flemming did in fact apply for the Rio Dell City Manager position.

If she's the most qualified candidate, she just might get the job. If she's not, she won't.

Regarding Harvey Rose, the former Eureka City Manager, Mr. Rose decided to change a contract that the Eureka City Council approved without informing the Council.

At 12:19 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yeah, Wes Chesbro had been attempting to intimidate other local Democrats out of the Assembly race. With all his $ and all his support from the central committees he expects to go right back into office. Why he deserves to go back to Sacramento as our "representative" is beyond me. He did absolutely nothing worthwhile in his 8 years in the State Senate. And he never has had a real job, after all. Maybe Wes Chesbro should leave the politics to those who will actually get something done? Because Chesbro is the personification of a careerist, do-nothing politician.

A Republican is a Democrat who's been mugged.

A Democrat is a Republican who's been f**ked over by the government.

A Libertarian is a Republican who couldn't hold a job.

HAHA

Nancy is a lock for the city manager of Rio Dell. She is establishing residence there and will run for Rodoni's Supervisor position with his blessing in 2008. Then she will "bitch slap" all who denied her intent to be "Queen of the Bay" without mercy! Who out there dares to deny this?

At 9:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yes, she is one of five......

John Campbell has announced to his closest friends he will be running for Roger's seat and will "bitch slap" anyone who stands in his way, including Nancy.

All you champions of intellect out there who know so much about who is and who is not qualified for the Rio Dell job should get off your lazy ass and go for it yourself instead of sitting around at home bitching and whining about who has the right to apply and who does not. Idiots, why dont some of you try doing something for your community other than complaining about it on a blog? Weak and scared thats why you hide in here, weak and scared.

Interesting to read PL still owes John Campbell 400K in unsecured compensation. I guess the subdivision in Fortucky wasn't enough. What is it with execs getting such compensation for running companies into the ground?

You're jumping the gun, Heraldo, just like Buhne did. He's updated his site since he gun- jumped. They apparently haven't even had interviews of the applicants yet.

Nancy is a lock on both Rio Dell City Manager and Rodoni's Supervisor position. Campbell is not even worthy.
