Good Bye, History Channel
Went in to the Suddenlink office yesterday to downgrade my cable TV service. I couldn't afford the [whatever it was called?] basic(?) cable for $55 something a month so went for the $16 a month package. I guess that gives you just a few channels, mostly local ones and FOX.
What a shame. I'll miss my History Channel. I probably watch that more than anything else. Then again, most of the time I fall asleep on the couch watching TV anyway. I probably won't miss it all that much.
I was kind of surprised with all the complaints Suddenlink keeps getting the customer service rep didn't even ask me why I was downgrading. You'd think she'd at least ask if there was a problem.

Did they charge you a fee for downgrading? Cox used to do that.
Fred, basic channel TV is free. You get cbs, nbc, abc, pbs, and cw. All you need is a pair of good rabbit ears and away you go. And no $16 per month. What a deal....
You're missing great shows on HBO.
Yeah, playing $16 just to watch CNN isn't worth it. You'll be far better informed by reading online news. The only reason to stick around is if you can't get DSL.
So Fred, now that you can't afford to heat your place, and you've downgraded your cable (What great priorities) will you now admit that just perhaps you need some assistance? Government assistance?
It is sad. Fred has the typical assho*e's attitude that he's always right and understands how things really are. In reality, he's a pitiful, desperate person, living on the edge. Its people like him who snap and go postal or worse. I just hope Fred can't afford a firearm and ammunition, Lord only knows what he'll do as he sinks further into abject poverty.

I am with Fred. Very few us are so flush we can afford to spend money unnecessarily. I think 11:09 may be right and an over-the-air antenna might work just fine. I am not sure the public service channel is over-the-air which broadcasts the city council meetings, but other than than that I would not miss much.
Well Fred, seeking government assistance is not such a bad idea. You're in need, and I think you ought to be helped.
Well I can afford cable on more than one TV -- but have an issue with Suddenlost. I don't get cable on one TV and they can't figure out why. They told me they would not give a credit as I have two other TV's that I can watch cable on (that sometimes work). I don't think I should have to pay for a TV that cannot get cable and they think I should. I pay for quite a few movie channels so I don't have a "little bill".
I don't understand the attacks on Fred for going back to basic TV. Agree that 1:47 is over the edge. Maybe Fred should be armed and waiting for some of the threatening trolls. He might be able to run over them with a lawn mower or hit them with a rake and that could be "armed" instead of a gun. But some of them in the past have sounded like they need real mental health (5150) and should be seriously looked at by a mental health professional.

I'm a bit worried about someone who has to sit in front of a television to get enjoyment out of life.Quit knocking Fred just because he prefers to save his money and he happens to prefer reading,gardening,hanging out with his wife,or doing the other things in his life which he may enjoy,which don't involve watching TV.
It would be nice if he put the $16 towards heating bills, or cleaning his place up. His wife doesn't even want to stay their anymore. Shouldn't that be a bigger consideration?
Go back and read Fred's early travelogues 8:44. You really need to understand what is going on before you make hurtful comments. He explains exactly why they have to travel to the Bay Area. You will regret your cutting remarks.

Probably worth it, even if they did. The guy that came by and did the change on my cable was interested in the lawnmower I had sitting in my front yard. It was an old commercial Toro I was hoping someone would steal.
No one ever did but the Suddenlink guy wanted it so he took it off my hands. Saved me the hassle of taking it to the dump.

Back in the early eighties I owned around forty different guns. Don't have anywhere near that many now, though.
So Fred do you see how government programs are not all bad? If anything Medical and Medicare need to be strengthened in this country, not weakened. But see Fred, that takes taxes. This country spends more per capita and as a percent of gdp on health care than other industrialized nation. Yet the poor can only rely upon Medicare. Why? The system has unevenly distributed access to services. Fred, whether you care to admit it or not the only way to distribute access downwards is through these programs. One day you might understand.
Hopefully he's still getting that free illegal feed of the Spice channel. That'll keep him calmed down long enough for his with to sedate him and hide the guns.

Over the air antenna broadcasts are now digital and sometime in the next year local affiliates will be broadcasting HD too. I paid $99 for an excellent digitial antenna and stuck it in my attic. Since all transmitters are in the same general direction I get everything at 90% plus signal. I have heard you can get by with a cheap VHF antenna and perhaps even rabbit ears. Funny... back to rabbit ears for HD.

I see Fred has a new friend. If you actually read some of his past postings he'll tell you that he supports responsible and reasonable taxation and is a critic of taxes which are not necessary.
If we didn't have tax dollars wasted away on things which continue to not work,we'd have more money to put into useful programs like Medical.

C'mon, EVERYBODY supports the tax spending that pay for projects THEY say are worthy. However the taxes Dennis Mayo supports are very different from the ones Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap supports. But they both personally exemplify their positions by "walking the talk", building the organizations that benefit from the tax spending they each promote. I respect them both.
Fred needs to get a job and join the tax paying folks BEFORE he complains about any taxes that I pay. Unfortunately for him, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed and his best efforts aren't worth more than minimum wage. So, he qualifies to collect welfare because he'll never be able to get promoted to a living wage. I'm happy for him.

Now wait a minute, don't forget Nick Bravo is a recognized political figure. In 2004 he received 1031 votes, 4.85% of the vote, dead last out of 10 candidates. Back again in 2005 he received 26 votes a whopping 0.85%! Like a Timex watch, he takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
More people were planning to cast votes for Bravo but unfortunately had already taken their meds those days.
