Shut Her Up!

Yet another call to silence opinion- This time by our very own Robash.

Rob, if it's such a bad opinion piece, then why don't you just leave it alone, as I do with some of the lame comments on this blog. I do so because I feel such comments speak for themselves. It's kind of an extension of that old saying: Better you keep your mouth shut and let people think you're a fool, rather than open it and remove all doubt...

Why not let people open their mouth and make fools of themselves sometimes?

Not referring to your comments here, Rob. I think we all know the types of comments I'm referring to.

In regards to the issue Malkin commented on; I wouldn't be too quick to criticize. There have been some attempted school shootings in which the shooter was stopped by armed students or staff. CLS describes some of them on his Classically Liberal blog.

I make this post with reservation as I don't want to start an argument about gun control here. Just suggesting you address the issue at hand rather than simply criticize the other person or call for her silence.

Ask any college student, if it happened here, what would you do? Are you prepared? Do you know any self defense? Do you know where the exits are in your classrooms? Are you aware of your surroundings? Are you aware of who comes in the door, or is your back turned? Do you have anything you could use to defend yourself? Would you want to defend yourself? They are woefully unprepared.

Fred, Rob is entitled to his opinion. It was a horrible tragedy. He is expressing one of the five stages of grief: anger.

According to Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D is a psychiatrist and the author of the groundbreaking On Death and Dying, there are five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. They do not occur in any order and not everyone goes through them. I went into denial until my college student called to see how I was feeling, and then we talked about it.

It was a horrible tragedy. There was a ban on this weapon that was not renewed by the former republican controlled congress.

He had two weapons, Carol. One was a 22. Right?

I am learning about guns, which is something I wish I did not have to do.

Cho used a Walther.22 caliber pistol and a Glock 19. The 15 round magazine that he used was illegal under the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

Hey Fred, you really are the one who should keep your mouth shut. But please, keep your rotting gums flapping. You expose the rights vapid intellectualism. You expose how very little you know about life in general. Above all else you are an old washed out fool. It is amusing to me how you just cant help but express your ignorance.

In this age of overheated political rhetoric, Michelle Malkin’s April 19 column, “Wanted: A Culture Of Self Defense,” is as insulting, idiotic and downright vile piece of writing as I have ever had the misfortune of reading.

Right on, Rob! Great letter.

Even Glenn Franco Simmons is calling out Malkin for being so offensive.

Malkin's piece was ignorant, revolting, and offensive. She has a right to her opinions, however. So does Rob Ash. Each was published and we can draw our own conclusions.

But the part that bothers me the most is your line "In regards to the issue Malkin commented on; I wouldn't be too quick to criticize". That tells me things about you that I would rather not know. I am disappointed in you.

Sorry Fred, but that old saw about keeping your mouth closed applies only to fools, which you certainly are.

And anyway, that's not how people successfully promote their political positions. Use of publicity is essential to political victory. Not rebutting an argument is seen by fools as agreement. That's why so many idiots in this blog are insistent to have the "last word".

And when the facts are against you, its even more essential to open your mouth and raise doubts.
Arkely puts out his fishwrap rather than writing letters and OP-EDs to the TS so that he can raise doubts about facts that he doesn't like.

Carol, Glad you are learning about guns but you still have a long way to go:
"There was a ban on this weapon that was not renewed by the former republican controlled congress."
Glock hand guns have never been banned in the U.S. I have owned a model 19 for many years. It was/is even legal in California.

"The 15 round magazine that he used was illegal under the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004."

Absolutely untrue. The manufacture and importation into the U.S. of high capacity magazines (over 10 rounds) was prohibited between 1993 and 2004. Owning them was never banned. Pre ban high cap mags were sold in the U.S. even then. California bans them along with key limes by the way. We all know how dangerous key limes are.
Q. Why is it that leftists are so anxious to silence those with which they disagree?
A. They are intellectually too lazy to rely on facts and logic.

Another disturbing part of this story is the way these poor victums just took this attack. No one fought back. We have a real problem when our kids have been so brain washed into the idea that the Government will take care of them(police in this case) that they become lambs to the slaighter. This of course is the plan under our Gov. Education system. What were turning out are compliant little followers who will vote for more Gov. To have them killed like this is not the plan just a side affect. It starts with the stupid progressive line in grammar school that if a bully hits you,you should just take it and latter tell an adult teacher. You are never allowed to defend yourself----- That would be barbaric and unenlightened. Compliant vessels. Teach your kids to defend themselves which will ultimatly defend freedom from tyranny and assaults from killers. Carol you should learn how and why to shoot.

I agree that I don't know much about guns, but here is where I read my information:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/17/AR2007041701885.html

(washingtonpost.com)

"Law enforcement officials say the Glock that Cho used had a 15-round magazine, illegal under the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. Several empty magazines were recovered at the scene.

'If you have four or five rounds in a clip rather than 15, the shooter has to reload and reload,' said Brian Malte, with the Brady Campaign, a gun safety group. 'That gives someone an opportunity to do something to stop him.'"

Humbug wrote, "But the part that bothers me the most is your line "In regards to the issue Malkin commented on; I wouldn't be too quick to criticize".
Let's take a look at a little of what Rob wrote:

"Malkin’s whining about intellectual and physical disarmament is completely disingenuous. If it were true, a mediocre writer such as Malkin would never be employed.".

Hmmm...he says her commentary (which I'll admit to not having read) is completely disingenuous. He doesn't explain why. He simply follows with a personal insult which I suppose argues for the validity of the first sentence?

"The psychotic murderer Cho ranted into his camcorder about how he hates wussified spoiled bourgeois kids.".....then writes

"Michelle Malkin rants in your paper about how the public education system is turning out wussified bourgeois kids who can’t defend themselves."....and

"It seems that Ms. Malkin identifies much more closely with the mindset of the deranged killer Cho than she does with that of civilized society.".

I read it the other way around. Cho recognized a vulnerability and exploited it (as has many others who have attacked in "Gun Free Zones"- these things don't seem to happen where people might be able to shoot back). Malkin (again, not having read her piece) seems to have identified the same weakness. I'd hardly condemn her for making an effort to expose what she saw as a weakness.

9:45 wrote, "But please, keep your rotting gums flapping. You expose the rights vapid intellectualism".

I expect at least some comments like that. As I said earlier on, I leave some offensive comments up since they speak for themselves.

Carol, Ban weapons from LAW ABIDING Americans and only criminals will be armed. Wrong about anyone standing up to CHO, a 70+ year old Nazi camp survivor block a door with his body while CHO shot through it, saving many students. It cost him his life. All this PC bulls&*t has got to stop!!! Sometimes I think many would prefer we were Nazis or the former USSR. It seems many so called progressives want to shut up those who have different beliefs or opinions. Stalin and Moa would be proud. By the way, the magazines for the Glock would still have held 10 rounds, just an extra 4-5 reloads. My 2 cents.

If your talking points are mined from the WaPo and the Brady Campaign you should be very careful in collecting the facts. What the "staff writers" Schulte and Horwitz" omitted (conveniently) was that the mags were not "illegal", but only the manufacture and importation of them was prohibited between 1993 and 2004. Literally thousands of them were sold and traded legally 1993- 2004. ALL law enforcement "officials" are aware of these facts and that is why Schulte and Horwitz do not identify the "law enforcement officials". Nor did the WaPo staff writers identify the Brady Campaign as a gun banning special interest lobby which it is. "Gun Safety group"! Give us a break!

Rob Ash says: "Malkin should have a little respect for the families who have recently lost loved ones before she jumps on her soapbox."

I was paying attention to the event and the gore wasn't even cleaned up before the Brady Bunch and the rest of the gun grabbers were getting face time in the media to advocate the institution of more "gun free" zones and victim disarmament.
The perpetrator violated dozens of laws. Is the answer enacting more of them that will only be obeyed by potential victims? Please spare us the straw man ploy of: "flooding our colleges with guns".
For those of you who would rely on "law enforcement" to keep us safe I ask: what will a cop bring to a reported shooting incident (when he finally arrives)? Answer: GUNS. Many years ago Israel learned about "gun free" schools. How many school massacres have the Arab terrorists carried out since Israeli teachers have been trained and provided with Uzis?

Liberal (socialist) democrats wanting to silence free speech...This is news to you Fred??

I wish there would have been an armed student trained in firearms in that classroom! Cho may have gotten the professor but would've been picked off before he could acquire anymore innocent victims.

At 7:07 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Basically, Carol, if you are going to die anyway, wouldn't you rather go out taking that guy down? Before he kills other innocent people? If it would save your kid, maybe standing behind you?

At 8:10 PM, Blogger Fred Mangels said...

Racist? Never mind your claim Cho was mentally ill.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one, HR. The guy punched his ticket. Too bad one of the victims didn't off him.

It doesn't matter what the guy's mind state was. He needed to be taken down.

Unfortunately, no one was around to take him down. It was a "Gun Free Zone".

I don't think this has anything to do with mentally ill people. It has to do with people being empowered to defend themselves.

Regardless of what laws are passed, the bottom line is that people should be cognizant of threats, and dealing with them.

More gun laws won't accomplish that.

Good morning Mark -

41st post - copy of the prior 40 deleted ones...

Oh yeah I get it H. - the Attorney General is corrupt, CDF is corrupt. Everyone is corrupt except Heraldo (who is to chicken to come out and admit who they are) Lovelace, Salzman, Miller.

Yeah, right.

Wow - you are censoring stuff you don't like. (like the 4/24/2007 03:28:00, 4:00, 4:03, 4:06, 4:30, 4:37, 4:40, 4:47, 4:51 through 510 PM and this mornings prior posts you removed which were identical to this one...that makes 40 removed posts.)

Censorship - a new and progressive concept.

BTW, I am copying your page each time I post just for the fun of it. Am forwarding your tantrum to some other blogs. Take a little advice, stop the tantrum...just a suggestion before you blow a blood vessel in your brain.

Thanks Fred. Bravo is really getting to be a pest.

As a matter of fact, I'm in complete agreement with you regarding gun control. I'm totally against it. It is too bad the Virginia Tech victims weren't armed so they could defend themselves.

Gun ownership is an essential Constitutional right and should be defended.
