Humboldt Eagles

John Driscoll reminds us this morning that we have bald eagles in Humboldt County. I often forget about them because they're not all that common.

I've only seen one in all the years I've been up here. It was sitting on top a power pole on the east side of the freeway opposite the Humboldt Bay Power Plant. It was an immature bald eagle like the one in the picture.

That was back in the early eighties. I haven't seen once since.

Lots of them in Hyampom. Also all up and down the Mad river water shed, all the way down to the Glendale area.

I have scene them near the mouth of the Eel River at the last bridge on near the end of Cannibal Island Road.

I also have seen many along the South Fork of the Salmon River.

I think that's supposed to have been "seen" them, Carol, although I'm sure they were quite a scene.

There have been bald eagles along the Klamath River for some time. One swooped down and grabbed our cat Dumpster Diver from our yard in Weitchpec. Dumpster Diver fought like hell and the eagle dropped him from about 10 feet. He suffered no damage except losing a bunch of fur. All God's creatures gotta eat.

I have only seen one in the Trinity River canyons near Willow Creek. But, my family have witnessed them many times up and down the rivers.

One summer, I was in downtown Willow Creek standing near a group of tourists. They were pointing up in the sky and saying, "My God, look at those beautiful creatures".
One man, the group authority I presume, pointed out to the group that those were golden eagles. He stated that this was too far south for bald eagles. I took a gander towards the sky and saw quite a few of these georgeous birds aloft in the sky. They were right, they were very beautiful creatures.

But what they was, was buzzards.

But, I let them go on believing we lived in God's country just the same.

I've seen them in the Van Duzen watershed. Usually immature ones in the winter, around Bridgeville. I did see a full grown one once in the spring at Pamplin Grove.

There's a pair we've seen several times this year over the Bayside bottoms near where Jacoby Creek crosses under Old Arcata Road. We saw them -- assuming it's the same pair returning year after year -- as far back as six years ago. Most recently they've been sited twice in the last couple of weeks, soarng right over our yard.

No cultured person would point out improper word usage, incorrect spelling, or poor grammar in this forum. Being able to even use a computer is an achievement for the peculiar type of right wingers here. After all, when a dog gets up and plays the violin, no one complains that it misses some of the notes.

Any more reports on the Algore lecture you attended in Mill Valley?

"Will the leftists please educate themselves about economics and history?"

Oh, but they have. They learned all they "know" by reading the rave reviews of The Communist Manifesto and Earth In The Balance in the New York Times.

When you guys are talking about right wing and left wing, is that in reference to the leftovers in the bottom of the Kentucky Fried Chicken barrel? Coz, I'm a leg man, myself.
