Gas Price Variations

Doesn't explain why gas in Humboldt is more expensive than most other places but the Santa Rosa Press- Democrat takes a look this morning at the reason for the price variations for gasoline in Sonoma County.

At first glance, I thought their prices varied more than Humboldt's. Upon closer scrutiny it looks like they're about the same as Humboldt with prices varying up to ten cents a gallon.

Still, their prices seem to vary among many different stations, as best I can tell, whereas Humboldt's seem to be Renner Petroleum, with the lowest, versus all other stations that seem to be around ten cents more expensive than Renner's on average.

Oh, and then there's Costco, which the AAA web site doesn't show a current or past price for.

That AAA Gas Price Finder is pretty neat. I'll have to try that next time I head south, although the Willits Safeway seems to always have the lowest prices in my experience.

Is Renner Petroleum still owned by Rex Bohn that seemed to be the big issue that he was in control of all gas prices when he ran for supervisor.

Bohn never owned Renner Petroleum. He started as a truck driver and moved up to operations manager. Read The [North Coast] Journal article.

Seriously, when is Sims going to give us back our name? It's a community commodity, our psychic pocket change, not for him to change on a whim when he wants to glom onto The Lumberjack's new found gravitas.

Yep, Bohn was Ops Manager at Renner. He left there and now works for Evergreen Pulp(?).

He ran for Eureka City Council, against Chris Kerrigan, not Board of Supervisors.

Folks on the east coast were complaining about their gas prices were $2.99/ gallon. They were quiet when I told them that gas prices were $3.49/ gallon in California.

Costco still cheaper. Santa Rosa Costco cheaper than Safeway in Willits. Pretty easy to get to. I always go to the Costco web site and look up the list of stores and depending on where we are going I print out the Costco stores with gas stations that even includes a map of how to get there.

This is off-thread but I cant help it. Fred are you aware of the wonderful BBQ place between the Willets Safeway and the street in the same strip mall? I discovered it Memorial Day when we stopped to gas up. It's called the Phoenix Bakery (sounds like something out of Chinatown.) But you go back past all the organic breads and they have the most terrific pulled pork sandwiches I've had in Calif. It's a little mom'n'pop place so check it out while it's still there. Geez now I've made myself hungry..
