Ok. Results of the Arcata/ Eureka Safety Corridor poll are in. "Do nothing" is the winner. I'm sure the powers that be will get right on it and do nothing.

I would rather have the overpass. It makes more sense in the long run.
Please, let's not choose the safest option. Let's instead stick with the status quo, idiot drivers making a dash across a highway while other idiot drivers ignore what's in front of them. By all means, let's stick with a potentially lethal situation.
Fred, infrastructure construction smacks of economic growth. We certainly don't want any growth around here...it might create jobs.
Jobs as opposed to the handouts that 80% of the population up here wants.
Yeah, a few temporary high paying construction jobs so that more blue collar rednecks have a spending spree. After the boom is over they'll join the residue ex-bluecollar spousal abusers, drunkards, crackheads and meth freaks.
Methinks Fred doesn't travel the corridor much. Hell, just the traffic coming down from Trinidad is insane during rush hour, not to mention McKinleyville and Arcata heading to Eureka for work.
That is not traffic. You people live in a dream.
Yeah, Mr. Smog thinks there has to be gridlock for anything to count as traffic. Go back to LA pinhead.

Doing nothing will not work. I drive the corridor both directions 5 days a week. You can already see the speeds creeping up. No one does 50. I try and idiots in the left lane go flying by at over 60. It's just a matter of time until there's another fatal crash.
The people have truly spoken in an unscientific anonymous poll that is easily thrown by a single zealot.
Yup 9:05, the default speed is now 55 mph, with at least 30 to 60 cars passing at 65 mph or better. Compound that with growth over the next 10 years and the news media will have to resurface its fictional "Blood Alley" name to strike terror in our hearts again.
I'm torn. The corridor is inherently safe today at 65 mph despite media terror mongering. But crossing 101 at the intersections is a pain for how long you have to wait at any speed limit, so interchanges would help at *every* intersection. What to do... what to do...
Let's all do something unusual.
Let's be Radical.
By that, of course, I mean Let's go to the ROOT of the problem.
The way to solve the traffic mess on 101 is for people to live closer to where they work.
It would cut the number of cars on the road. It would save people money on gas and make them feel (quite rightly) that they were doing something good for our environment. It would save lives.
Excellent idea 10:18. I'll divorce my spouse so I can live near my office and she can live near her office. We'll both miss our children now that they are moving to be closer to their schools. Little Billy won't understand why he doesn't get to see his big sister anymore, but he'll thank his legal guardian when he gets older and understands.
It is not a fast process but you choose your jobs, schools and home with location in mind. You make some adjustments and sacrifices but when you do, you will find that you have more time with your family and hobbies and less time in the car. Saves money on gas too. It just takes some planning.
6:17 apparently has a plush job and hasn't had to interview in years.
If you find a job, you take it. If you live in Trinidad and the job is in Fortuna, you take it.
Humboldt County is in perpetual recession. It doesn't look like it because tourism and pot dollars keep key industries afloat (hotels, restaurants, housing). If you can get a job anywhere, you go anywhere to keep it.
So because of the usual vocal minority, a decision will be reached to "do nothing". Then, in the very near future, when the critical need appears (again, only worse than the present) due to traffic and numerous accidents, the funding for the problem will no longer be available, and we'll be stuck. Kinda like a lot of other Caltrans projects that need to be done.

And a Home Depot and the continued selling that retail development is good will no doubt continue the trend.
