Murray on the Railroad Dream

I'll stand aside on the issue of replacing the rail line between Arcata and Eureka with a bike trail, but I thought John Murray had a pretty hard- hitting commentary in the Eureka Reporter this morning regarding the return of rail to Humboldt. Wish I'd written that.

Only idiots would do the math and energy savings of rail and water shipping and come away convinced bicycle paths are the long term answer.

John was at the last port development meeting. Maybe is was the one Bertain was alluding to when he said there were people at the meeting for the trail.

The bike path might be a good idea. Have a bond measure on the ballot to build it and toll/user fees pay off the bonds. Oh. Wait a minute. That would mean that the users/bikers would be paying for it (like motorists do for highways) instead of the general taxpayers. The "progressives" are sure to support this:o)
