Save Windows XP!

This story was in the Times- Standard this morning but, for some reason, isn't available on their web page. Seems Microsoft is going to pull the Windows XP operating system off the shelves come June, it having been replaced by Vista.

I agree. Save XP. If it works, don't try and fix it.

Fred, not not does XP work, but it works better than Vista, more reliable, less intensive hardware usage. I really think Microsoft priced themselves out of the market on this one.

I've been very happy with XP, the only problem being when I tried to upgrade from Windows Me. That didn't work, but a fresh install did, although it took forever. Now I'm happy with it and it was a vast improvement over Windows Me, which had almost become unuseable for me.

Microsoft really needs to take a look at their change for the sake of change practices.

My solution to the Vista dilemma is to never buy it or a computer with Vista on it. When it comes time to upgrade my current XP PC, I am going to switch to a Mac. Forever.

I'd be tempted to, but they're more expensive machines. Besides, I can't play my game, Aces High, on a Mac.

Sorry, change my post to not only does XP work, but it works better than Vista.

Fred, the native games on a Mac is better and better, but you run things like parallels, or just dual boot with xp on these intel mac's.

Fred:

Mac's can run Windows. Including Aces High.

Macs are expensive, I agree, but overall it is worth it. I cannot imagine going back to the "Blue Screen of Death".

This idiocy by Microsoft may give a boost to the Open Software Movement, as are there are free operating systems for PC's that outperform Vista.

But Fred, that's the capitalist way. It's not change for the sake of change, it's for the sake of dollars. They have to keep selling us new things, or they won't continue to grow. How do you expect the free market to keep going if they can't keep charging us for upgrades?

We must never again pay Bill Gates for a product that torments us day after day, month after month.

I finally got Windows XP to work for me and I will never give it up!

Frankly and literally, I don't think my heart could stand the stress of going through another of Bill Gates so-called "upgrades."

FUD FUD FUD.

I haven't had a BSD in years, what in the hell are you people doing to crash your systems?

i run xp on mac pro behind parallels desktop. I only use xp for ARCView. If I had a choice I wouldn't touch it. also had a choice to install vista when I bought the mac but read reviews and made the right decision. I have never owned a windoze machine and never will.

Nice for you that you had the extra hundreds to buy an Apple. Some of us had tighter budgets and more need for variety and specialization in our software. Happy for you, I am, that your smugness remains intact.

As far as a Mac - even Bill Gates said that Windows works better on a Mac because it already is a window machine and does not need all the extra software. I run Mac Windows and nothing ever happens to it unlike my PC that I would throw out if I didn't need it for one program I have to use.

The PC does have XP but I have never used it.

As I say, it brings a tear of joy to one's eye to witness true smugness in bloom.

Macs and Linux are fine for what they can do- but people forget
Windows is a program that has do everything for a million different kinds of businesses.
Not perfect, but where are all the solutions?
All I hear are lazy people who want machine to work perfectly without them having to hurt their little heads with learning about how to maintain and fix them.
Yes, Linux is more stable, so are Macs, but people dont WANT to learn command line codes, and Macs, as mentioned are way overpriced.
They are not as upgradable, and alas, if you are in business, you had better speak the language, which for 20 years now, has been, and will remain-Windows.

All in all, XP is the best thing out there.

Bill Gates! Listen here! You can have my Window XP -- when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!

(A tip of the hat to Charlie Heston.)
