Humboldt Commies

A somewhat bizarre- at least to me- read in this week's North Coast Journal on local communists. I'd always wondered what Michael Langdon looked like and did for a living. Why doesn't it surprise me that he's on disability?

Our very own Shane Brinton is mentioned, as well, although it seems he's left, or is at least distancing himself from, the communists. I wonder why he declined to be interviewed for the story?

I don't know Shane Brinton, but I did read a comment from him a few months ago in a local blog explaining that he had moved out of his Communist phase (or words to that effect). Remember, Shane is young, and many people in their youths gravitate toward one grand theoretical structure or another.

Maybe Shane recognized this story for what it was...a bunch of nonsense. With all the important and interesting issues to cover around here I am wondering why they filled up so much space with something so trite.

Shane was a communist while in high school. He became a democrat when he became eligable to vote. He is welcome addition to the party!

Let's remember, it's not like he planted any bombs, or anything, like Bill Ayers, Obama's friend, did.

Only a Prog would claim the NCJ is a good paper. If you're not a Prog, have been critical of Prog politics, and you want to get your organization's news out or your letters published? Forget it, you will be censored which is why Progs love their censored news but the rest of us see a political mouthpiece instead of a community newsmagazine.

Is Infamous Steve the only person in the world who uses that term "Prog?" I think so.

Nope, it's in common usage now with all anti-Progressive activists here on the north coast. It's bizarrely 1984 double-think but true that in our times "Progressive" means its opposite, regressive. "Progs" stand for closing down local industry and creating a false economy based on outside funding--State jobs, grants to organizations and pot money--instead of building up the local industrial base that anchors all the rest of the local economy. We cannot afford to be dependent on tourism with oil prices the way they are or on the pot economy which is bottoming out with too many growers competing. We have to create local industry with the resources we have available. That's what this community is here for--to provide lumber for homes and buildings for the rest of the country that haven't vast conifer forests like we do.
