Eureka Candidate Forum in Arcata?

This certainly puts a different spin on "Local Control". Apparently the Greens are having a candidate forum for Eureka City Council candidates in Arcata. What?

From the Redwood Peace and Justice Center e- mail list:

CANDIDATE FORUM FOR EUREKA CITY COUNCIL
Sunday, August 17, 6:00 p.m.
Arcata Library Conference Room
500 7th Street
(behind Arcata City Hall)
As the civic and economic center of Humboldt County, decisions made by the City of Eureka affect all of us, not just those who live in the city limits. Two critical seats are open this year. Candidates for City Council, George Clark, Linda Atkins, and Frank Jager, will discuss key issues facing Eureka in a public forum hosted by the Humboldt Green Party at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, in the Arcata Library Conference Room, behind Arcata City Hall.

These are the same people trying to fool Fortuna with Clendenen.

D'ya think they will endorse Frank Jager for Council?

Greens are on the attack, but not against Republicans, against the Democrats. It's all about power to them.

Accepting Green endorsements could be the kiss of death for a candidacy. What sort of judgement would a person have in office if they hang out with anarchists and fools?

wtf?

Are they gonna be busing the homeless of arcata to Eureka to vote in the city council race or what?

It's just the Cobb-controlled trying to pretend they still have their shit together, when they can't even get it up to run a single candidate for local office this year.

Thanks to David and Kaitlin, the Greens have been driving their own members away in droves. Just look at the numbers.

Pretty interesting that when posts calling for George Clark to explain his positions regarding some of the items HIS blog has posted, the "george clark campaign team" has responded that George isnt in fact the author of the posts.

Well then sheeit, man, why have it on YOUR ELECTION BLOG, especially when you won't take responsibility for the posts?

If it's on YOUR website, one would rationally assume that you (george clark) have the same view points.

Let's hear how some of these subjects which have ZERO to do with being a Eureka city councilperson, are relevant to the campaign - in the words of George Clark himself.

The debate should be in Eureka. Period! If Cobb is scared to show his face there, tough shit.

Until recently, political partisanship has Never been a part of city council. It is a Nonpartisan position! What goes on in Washington is a testament to what partisanship brings: fighting, division, and stalemate. Why do we want that? Beware of political party endorsements and those who seek and accept them. Beware a candidate's "Political Agenda." Political agendas famish the craving for solutions, Exclude a broad scope of ideas, and Will Not serve the citizens of Eureka, only political groups! For some, it's too late- they've already stepped in and accepted political doo doo and will never get it off their feet.

I think there's always been certain candidates that would draw the conservative types and certain candidates that draw the lefties. But with local positions it seemed to me there could often be considerable overlap with some conservatives backing what some considered left leaning candidates and vice versa. Bonnie Nealy would be an example.

Seems to me it's been since Salzman and Local Solutions entered the scene that things got real partisan, at least in the county and Eureka. And most of that comes from the lefties from what I've seen. Sure, the conservative types might talk among themselves how they might not like the left leaning candidate but it seems to me they try to run on the issues.

In a way, I think it's good the left makes their agenda somewhat clear but it certainly muddies up local politics. It will be interesting to see how well this partisan strategy works this time.
