SRPD: No On 8

Today's editorial from the Santa Rosa Press- Democrat recommends a NO vote on Prop 8. Probably one of the better arguments against Prop 8 I've seen floating around. I would have preferred to see that one used as the argument in the voter info pamphlet than the one that was used.

Our fellow blogger, Beachcomber, had a letter to the editor today stating "no" on 8.

The bigotry of religious fundamentalists is consistent with their hypocritical stances on many things, but the strong opposition by Mormons to same-sex marriage seems odd to me, given their history.

You'd think that they'd just stay out of this one.

Pretty upset, thought I'd give Jim Pell my vote as I know him fairly well and he seems to be a nice guy and knowledgable on a variety of issues,so I gave him my vote and then turned my ballot in to elections, only to see later that night during the debate that he rides on the bigot train as well.Really dissapointing, almost makes me regret voting for him.

Well, keep in mind that pretty much any Republican candidate that makes it through the primaries up here has to at least give lip service to their anti- homo agenda. It was no surprise to me.

Besides, he's not going to win, anyway. Even if he did, he'd be in the minority party and there's not much he could do to if he wanted to pursue an anti- homo agenda. But, at least he could vote against some of the bad things the Democrats try to do, which is about all we can ask.

BTW, esquan, don't forget to re- register to vote as a Libertarian now that the primaries are long over. That would be something you could be proud of for a change!

I'm currently and have been for a long time a registered Democrat Fred. Lately it seems I don't like any of the local and national platforms of my party. I've been thinking of changing my affiliation to independent- want to give me some reasons to vote Libertarian? If your answer is to make up my own damn mind I'd just love it. Whadda you say?

It's actually kind of fun being registered with the Libertarian Party, imo. You get to sit to the side during elections and watch Reps and Dems shout at each other and accusing each other of the same things. You know, like:

You're not qualified for the job. No, YOU'RE not qualified for the job.....

Am too. Are NOT! Am TOO. ARE NOT!......

I really feel above the fray, for the most part. And you don't have to worry about who wins or loses when you're with the Libertarian Party. You nearly always lose so, while a bit disappointing, it's not really any big deal.

As a libertarian, I can suggest you register with the LP, but I'll also always leave that choice up to you.
