I've heard some dumb arguments against the Richardson Grove realignment, but this one is probably the dumbest.

This isn't even the most dangerous part of the road. The dangerous part is when people get out of Richardson Grove and are so happy to be on a straight highway that they hydroplane into a million-pound tree.
The argument that a few trees makes a difference is moot, but I imagine the owners of small business in the area will be hard hit while the construction is taking place. Perhaps this person is trying to trick people into an emotional reaction instead of simply stating the truth about business in the immediate area. Although deceitful, that is a common tool used in politics. Debates with substance are only useful to reasonable people.
Fred, she's no fool. She's just wrong. Her business is at least twenty miles from the Grove on the Avenue.
But, I agree that people are over reacting. The reason that the realignment is costing so much is because they are leaving most of the trees.
Before anyone spouts their opinion about this project they should at least get themselves a rudimentary education on what's happening.
Hhe has a lot of opinions, but they're not always well informed.

Yes. There's a couple lame letters in today's paper.
There is some truth to what she says.I've met a number of traveling bike riders either heading north or south who indeed did claim that the big reason they came this way was to see some redwoods.And most of them seemed to be pretty well off financially and certainly into spending some money during their stay.I don't know if it's only me who thinks that there are worse spots along that stretch than you have at Richardson's Grove.I suspect that not so long after this work is done,if it is,that you'll see more projects incurring further south along that stretch.

And they won't notice the handful of small trees that are being removed as being gone.
I can't help but think if that Phillipsville gal was here a few decades back she'd of opposed the bypass to "The Slab" we had to go through to get here. Remember that one? That scared me to death even as an 18 year old. I'm sure a few trees were removed to bypass that one.
