No More Lawn Signs?

Included in the Eureka City Council's agenda for Tuesday night is some supposed campaign reform ideas. Among those being tossed around is a ban on lawn signs. I wonder whose idea that was?

I'm not a big fan of lawn signs myself, although I certainly have been known to put a few up during the campaign season. I realize they can be annoying to some. Sometimes I feel like I'm being yelled at when I drive by a bunch of signs telling me to vote one way or the other.

Still, they're usually only up for a month or two and I'd say people have a right to express their opinions, especially in their own front yards. Besides, it lets you know who the good and bad guys are around town when they tell you who they're voting for.

Freedom of speech is about to become a thing of the past.

It's never been around Rose. And your group Bushco in charge, the Patriot Act ended the dream finally when the Patriot and Military Commission Acts were put in place.
But anyways,in regards to the lawn sign thing,I predict that the request proposed will not go anywhere. Also,in tough economic times like these we don't need businesses hurting unnecessarily. Most campaign signs are produced locally.

mresquan-Most campaign signs are not made local. I would guess that 95% are made out of Humboldt County.

Look Konkler, get over it, Bush is out of office. And if I recall my history correctly, Lincoln did away with habeas corpus towards americans during the civil war and FDR took the lives and property away from 100s of thousands of Japanese americans.

You need new material and someone new to blame Konkler.

I would also like to know what lunatic came up with this rather stupid and totally unconstitutional idea. Oh yeah, free speech is dead up here in humco.

So what is your point?I don't recall ever defending either of those actions.Quite contrary actually.

If I lived in Eureka, I would have to take down my Buchanan-Foster 2000 and Ron Paul 2008 signs? What if I'm not finished supporting their campaign?

I suppose the next logical step would be to ban buttons, t-shirts, and bumper stickers.

Banning lawn signs is probably something little Jeffie came up with all by himself. No one suggested it at the Public Forum he held.

Like most of the lame brained ideas for campaign reform this only only serves to favor incumbents running for reelection.

How about campaign donation caps? Say- $2000 cap for various city council races and $5000 for Board of Supes or something along those lines?

So truly,I'd like to know just how the city could prevent someone from making their own sign,in their own garage, with their own materials. The enforcement of that would be a joke.
