Threats: Bush vs. Obama

Zombi has another one of her great photo essays up. This one takes a look at what happens when someone threatens Obama as opposed to someone threatening George Bush. Well, maybe that's not exactly what the comparison is, but something like that, anyway.

Well, the threats against Obama are real and dastardly. Like the redneck guys with the shotgun could have totally got him if they would have gotten around to carrying out their trailer park scheme. That was a real threat, not harmless ones like that guy who threw a live grenade on Bush's podium.

Zombie is -- surprise -- a zombie. People were arrested for wearing anti-Bush t-shirts in the vicinity of Bush's public appearances, but righty shit-for-brains show up with loaded guns where president Obama is speaking and are not arrested.

Protesters were never allowed close to Bush.

Regular (non-protesting) citizens were not usually allowed close enough to Bush to ask him any potentially-embarrassing questions.

Protesters were forced to do their protesting so far away from Bush and his special events that they could not be seen by the President or by the media.

Bush operated in a high-handed manner, but I would not go so far as to say he played the role of tyrant.

Obama's gentlemanly demeanor will appeal to the "better angels of our nature" and may make civilized discussion of issues once again a feature of the American political process.
