Special Weather Alert

Not for Humboldt, but I just stumbled into this special weather alert on Weather.com. Low pressure over the next few days will bring real hot weather to the Bay Area. It says some interior locations might get temperatures as high as 110. Yikes!

I have Willits and Ukiah listed as locations to watch, too, but there doesn't seem to be any alerts for them. Hard to believe this high pressure zone wouldn't heat up Ukiah if it's gonna scorch Novato and southward.

That's the glory of science. When a region has computer modeling they can give you pretty good predictions for specific areas (and improve their models when the forecast ends up being wrong).

I prefer reading direct from the National Weather Service. Its original reports contain more information about the affected region.

On their overview forecast pages there is a link to a forecast discussion which is difficult to read without being a meteorologist, but it sometimes reveals useful information not found in the simplified forecast.

Fred, Aj -Thanks for the weather links.

And to Fred, I found your Blog through my google keyword search email. Congratulations. (the keyword was Ukiah.)

Downloaded "Weather Planet" for my iPhone last night. The author also published the exremely good (and popular) "Distant Stars", a greet astronmy app. Haven'y spent much time w/Weather Planet yet.

FWIW.

Oh, it's hot in Ukiah, but I haven't looked at my 7 day forecast yet - just got off work.

It's already hot inland. I think I'll just stay in Arcata this weekend. The country fair is going on right? Hope it's foggy.

What I want to know is how the heck was it relatively cool all summer then suddenly heated up at the very end? It's gotta be El NiƱo. We're gonna have like 2000 inches of rain. I really better tie that tarp on my roof better... I mean fix my roof, or something.

September seems to always be our best weather of the summer. Don't worry, by the end of October we'll be freezing.

Is it politically incorrect to call this "Indian Summer"?

I don't have a problem with the term "Indian Summer", although I'm sure some will.

I've always considered Indian Summer to be after the first few weeks of rain around here. Seems to me, we usually end up having a week or two of heavy rain around this time of year, then it gets real nice and warm for a couple weeks, then the winter rain sets in.

I've always considered that short break between rain to be Indian Summer, but not sure that's the way it will work this year.
