Hislop For Sheriff?
It's not on the Times- Standard web site yet, but the hard copy of the paper is saying District Attorney's Investigator, Mike Hislop, will be throwing his hat into the ring for Humboldt County Sheriff. He's supposed to make a formal announcement Monday.
Hislop for Sheriff? I don't think so.

Thanks. I guess they just updated the page late. I see some other stories that weren't up there earlier, also.
It will be interesting to see who shows up Monday for his candidacy announcement. I can't imagine who would support him other than Gallegos.

Anyone want to bet Bonnie Neely backs Hislop? She backed George Clark for Eureka City Council. Actually campaigned for Clark, so I've been told.
Think enough Lefties will back Hilsop for Neely to jump in? And, no, this shouldn't be a Left vs. Right thing, but I could see it develop into that somehow or another.
It's going to be interesting. It looks more like Bonnie will be backing Garr - remember the party shot in the paper? Which will leave Hislop with no backing.
"Course Garr hasn't announced - Higgins has, for Fifth District, but the guys he would want to support him, expects to support him look to be backing, if not even pushing Patrick Cleary. Look for Cleary to have Bonnie, the huge tribal donations and HCDCC and Local Solutions. Just guessing. Higgins will get the Richard Marks treatment.

The feedback is incredible, Hislop is just flat out disliked. Gallegos' DA's office is the ONLY place he can be.
The 'oh he is a great guy' comments on the TS article are particularly humorous in light of the feedback I have been hearing.
I'm wondering who's making those comments? Fringe type Gallegos supporters, or just a few friends and family members of Hislop?
What is the problem with Hislop, Fred? I'm not really familiar with him but didn't realize there were problems that might present in a campaign. What should I know?
I'll admit to not knowing him personally, but pretty much everything I've read about him in the papers shows him to be a bit flaky.
Word was, he left EPD because he'd pretty much gone as high as he would be able to go there: A Traffic Sergeant.
I also believe he was the main force in trying to get D.A.'s investigators armed with AR15s (considered assault rifles by some) and that silly idea of a mobile incident response HQ for the D.A.'s office.
He has also has little he can show as far as management experience in any organization, big or small.
I think he has illusions of grandeur and wants to be famous.He doesn't understand what the D.A.'s office is supposed the be doing. It's not supposed to be his own little SWAT team. They're just supposed to investigate cases for the District Attorney.
I'm sure some will point out he took part in the recovery of Curtis Huntzinger's body. Well, good, except I'm not sure that should of been within the purview of the District Attorney's Office, other than the D.A. pretty much dropping all charges but manslaughter in that case so the guy who did it would fess up to where the body was. I think I could of done that much.
In fairness to Hislop, as far as cold cases go, I was reading this morning about the District Attorney of New York City(?) retiring. He's supposedly pretty good at what he did. He actually had a cold case section in his office, but that's a MUCH larger office than ours.

I believe that it was Wayne Cox that did the lead on finding Huntzingers body.

I guess so. Still, Hislop was supposedly involved: "When Cox, Chief Investigator Mike Hislop and Assistant District Attorney Wes Keat drove down to Sebastopol to get Stephen Hash to confess to killing Curtis, they didn't go alone.".
Cox is a good man. Hislop takes credit for his work. Everyone dislikes him.

I am backing Patrick Cleary for Fifth District Supervisor. I have been extremely impressed with his numerous accomplishments since moving to Humboldt county.
