Too Early For Signs?

Jeff Leonard stopped by my house yesterday wanting to put one of his campaign signs in my front yard. I'd told him earlier, as I did with Virginia Bass, he was more than welcome to place one of his signs in my yard. That necessarily mean I'll be voting for either of them, though.

I had to tell Jeff no. I just think it's too early for the signs. He said it was within 90 days of the election. Maybe so, but isn't the unofficial rule more like 6 weeks?

Of course, I'm enthusiastic. I announced last spring so I'm anxious to get this campaign started.

Eureka voters have a big decision to make: 1) do what we've always done and elect a supervisor to go off and help someone else, or 2) put Eureka on the Board by electing a supervisor that's focused on the 4th District.

The official start is 90 days before the election. It's in the candidate's packet.

So what do you think about billboards.....too early for those too?

Hey. As far as I'm concerned these signs are akin to yelling at people, without the noise, of course.

I do the sign thing, myself, but I figure a month to a month and a half is about the right time frame to put them up and I take mine down as soon as the polls close on election day.

When you are running a small budget campaign like ours, you need to get the message out early and often.

Our first signs out are small and certainly aren't yelling at people. We think they have a provocative message.

Jeff's campaign will be about trying to curb the spending we have watched burgeon in local campaigns over the past 8 years of our involvement.

Think what could be done in our community if the money from the PAC's went to the Zoo or the skate park or marketing for businesses et al.

We may go down in flames, but if we succeed past the first hurdle (primary) think of the message it will send: "local politics is open to everyone regardless of their financial status".

We might start a new trend and that would be good for our community.

Just my 2 cents....Jeff did not approve this message. LOL

The county is doing pretty well financially and the city has to raise taxes to keep the fire department up to standard. What's to debate? Re-elect Bonnie Neely.

All Dept. are understaffed some closed on Fridays Sheriffs Dept. 30 plus openings i hope the county doesnt get any better Bonnie will let you think it is great she is only one getting a raise try working here. County Emp. certainly will not support her wait her relatives will.

Are Jeff's the yellow signs with red writing? I saw some of them last weekend, and I didn't know whom they were for. I could see that there was a website address at the bottom, but I would have risked an accident trying to read it.

Yes, those are his. I felt the same way when I first saw them. I don't think it's a good idea not having the name clearly visible and I mentioned that to Jeff. He thinks it's a clever idea as it appeals to people's curiosity.

I don't think so but we'll just have to see if it works.

I don't see why all signs don't tap our curiosity. To think that 100% of effective signage in the universe has the subject matter in big obvious lettering when they could be using fine print. Jeff should go into marketing with such brilliant ideas.
