Crime Up Locally

Strange that the front page of today's Times- Standard has a story about how crime is up in the county but I can't find it on their web site. Hmmm???

No it's not online. And you have to wonder, does this reporter have NO MEMORY?

You write a report on crime being UP, you interview and quote Gallegos, and you say NOTHING about the fact that he made his claim that crime is down because of him a hallmark of his recent campaign?

Absolutely unreal.

It's online now - someone is listening:

Crime rates in Humboldt County increase; statewide numbers dropping

"...While crime rates across California are decreasing, violent crimes in Humboldt County rose more than 17 percent last year, according to a report from the California Department of Justice....

Statewide, violent crime dropped over 6 percent and property crime fell more than 10 percent, marking the third consecutive year that all three have decreased. Of the 58 counties in California, 35 reported drops in crime, and 12 of those fell more than 10 percent. California's largest counties -- Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino -- all reported a decrease in violent crime."

I have to wonder, though. If they didn't put in online because of their support of Gallegos, why would they put the story on the front page of their hard copy?

I use this method for determining whether something that happened is part of a conspiracy:

I think twice.

That usually settles my mind upon the conclusion that there must be some other explanation! 8-)

I don't think it is intentional.

But there is NO EXCUSE for missing THIS:
From Gallegos’ own website: http://votepaul.org/issues/what-truth-about-violent-crime http://votepaul.org/issues/what-truth-about-v… “What is the truth about violent crime? By prioritizing which people to remove from society, we have made the community safer. We all want a safe place to live our lives and raise our families, and by working together with health and human services, and the probation office, our team, which includes law enforcement, Health and Human Services, and CAST, has effectively reduced crimes in Humboldt County.”

Allison Jackson brought this up in the KHUM/Journal debate back in MAY, and the Journal followed up with a blog post and a report in hard copy...

Maybe Paul G. doesn't understand the meaning of the word "effectively."

Alternately, maybe he can't tell up from down.
