Neighbor Busted

This incident reported in the Times- Standard happened across the street from my house Friday morning. Started out with some guy yelling real loud about 4am. Then the cops showed up and they were there for around 3 hours.

I believe it was the manager of the house that was arrested. Haven't seen him since then but his truck is still out front of the house with the two front tires flat.

Hopefully, that will be the end of him. That house has been a fairly regular annoyance over the years with all the yelling and fights. Cops know the place well.

I understand the place is being foreclosed on and October 11 is the day they shut it down. I'm not sure the foreclosure will make much of an improvement in the long run as I don't know what else a new owner can do with a Victorian house with 11 rooms but rent rooms out or use it for a half way house. That's what it's been for the last ten years, or so.

Probably the best thing that could happen is for it to burn down.

Shoot, I wish they'd give it to me. I love Victorian architecture.

Isn't that a bit extreme, Fred? Why not let your all mighty free market decide what the highest use of it is -- if the market demands a cheap-room flop-house, who are you to interfere with the Libertarian impulse?

The regular 4 am screaming is awful - i can't imagine how bad it is for you being right across the street from it. it's a shame though, it could be a really beautiful house.

The screaming across the street has been going off and on for years. It's often different people, too, although the manager was somewhat consistent.

It's not just them, either. The "druggie house", as I call it, just 3 houses up the street has some occasional late night, early morning shouting going on. Not as bad as they used to be, though. I would think they'd be the ones you'd likely hear at your place as it's a straight shot from that house to yours.

Funny thing is, the druggie house and the house across the street seemed to find each other a while back and the manager could be seen going over to visit the druggie house fairly often lately, and vice versa. Birds of a feather, as they say.

The latest thing is the manager must of called them from jail and asked for help, or something. The folks from the druggie house have been going over to the empty house and taking all kinds of stuff out of it. I'm guessing the manager told them they could take whatever they want as the house is being auctioned off come October 12.

oh yes - the "druggie house", or as we call them, "the bickersons". it sounds as though they're beating their children on the front porch.

so what do you think will happen when the 4 am screaming house gets auctioned off of october 12th?

My guess is that whoever buys it will do the same thing the past owners did with it: Turn it into a boarding house or maybe a half way house. What else could you do with a house that big?
