Thompson Endorses Ciarabellini?

Congressman Mike Thompson endorsed Melinda Ciarabellini in her quest for another term on the Eureka City Council. Wow! How exciting!

NOT!

I suppose there's nothing wrong with touting any endorsements she can get, but I question whether a congressman should be making city council endorsements in the first place. Never mind that Mike Thompson isn't even our representative in congress anymore.

I certainly wouldn't have wrote a letter to the editor announcing it. I'd save that letter for a more impressive endorsement. Maybe from someone a bit more local?

Regardless of what one thinks of Mike Thompson, that's not my point.

It's a valid point, Fred. One wonders how these endorsements happen.

For example, few noticed that after Ms. Ciarabellini had volunteered for Rex Bohn's Supervisorial campaign handing out flyers and walking door-to-door with him, she afterwards initiated a motion as a sitting Council member to have the Eureka City Council endorse Rex in a letter to the Governor appointing him for the interim position.

She should have recused herself-- but she wanted to make it happen. It was poor judgement that few caught. Doing this from her position, and having the City Council following suit in her recommendation, represented a clear conflict of interest.

I wasn't aware of that happening. Good point. I agree.
