Speaking of Education...

Some interesting numbers from this CalWatchdog article on education back-in-the-day compared to a few years ago:

"According to the Friedman Foundation, “[B]etween fiscal year 1950 and FY 2009, the number of K-12 public school students in the United States increased by 96 percent while the number of full-time equivalent school employees grew 386 percent.'

“Public schools grew staffing at a rate four times faster than the increase in students over that time period. Of those personnel, teachers’ numbers increased 252 percent while administrators and other staff experienced growth of 702 percent, more than seven times the increase in students.”

Those statistics are irrelevant. The legal requirements of schools in the 1950s are nothing, NOTHING, like they are today. And society, and its domestic family problems, are nothing like the 1950s.

Today, schools have psychological counselors. They have reading and math intervention (due to the all-important standardized test). They have a whole spate of instructors for students with special needs. Heck, if a student legally required a full-time attendant, that's $30K right there for one student. Try pulling that in the 1950s. They even handle special need students starting at age 3 for verbal and cognitive impairment (both assessment and therapy)... the third birthday is where the state government cuts off involvement. And of course, school cafeterias weren't standard in the 1950s either. It's a night and day difference from today and 60 years ago.

If you want to cut any of that out, first nullify No Child Left Behind and all of the academic expectations the state and federal government have for public education.

Anonymous, statistics used in the past are not irrelevant in the future (as they are a basis for comparison on "like kind" comparables). Of course, statistics "can be refined, updated" as information is better understood, redacted or updated.

One statistic HOJ would JUST LOVE TO SEE is:

"What percentage of growth in the student body is attributed to ILLEGAL ALIENS AND THEIR DIAPER DANDIES?"

As far as societal problems --> uncontrollable hormones that leads to an abundance of "irresponsible sex and nymphings" which leads to .......... OVER-POPULATION!

It is like the national debt --> too big to fail joke, funny huh? Must we why top end educators keep giving themselves a raise through their cronie school boards. - HOJ
