Fugitve Ex- Cop Hush- Hush?

I haven't followed the story about that rampaging ex L.A. cop too closely, but close enough to wonder if the media or law enforcement are deliberately hushing some things up?

Most of all, his military service record: Why not more detail? At first I thought he was in the Army, but he wasn't. He was in the Navy, and not for very long. Finally I got a little more info in this story from the Santa Rosa Press- Democrat:

"Dorner served in the Navy, earning a rifle marksman ribbon and pistol expert medal. He was assigned to a naval undersea warfare unit and various aviation training units, according to military records."

A rifle Marksman rating is the lowest there is, assuming the Navy's are the same as the Army's. No biggie there. The pistol Expert rating is the highest, again assuming they're the Army equivalent.

I suppose the pistol rating could be cause for concern. I'm not sure, but I wouldn't find a Navy background as intimidating as the media and police are making his out to be. At least from the sketchy details.

Being assigned to a "naval undersea warfare unit" might be the key, keeping in mind Navy SEALs evolved from the Underwater Demolition Teams of WW2 fame.

I'm wondering if he might have been a SEAL or related outfit? That would be cause for concern over his tactical credentials. Maybe they don't want to mention that because it might bring bad light on the SEALs? Either that or they're trying to make him sound as much of a big bad ass as possible to easier justify killing him?

I don't know, but it just seems to me the media usually go all out into reporting the the background of someone like this. You know, interviews with people who served with him, what his specific job was and such. There seems to be a scarcity of details in this case.

Journalists have no widespread (e.g., conspiratorial) inspiration to withhold or downplay evidence. The corporations that employ journalists, and employ their news directors, might.

That said, you've provided no evidence they've downplayed anything or hidden anything, and like you said, you haven't followed the news very closely.

Neither have you, obviously, or you'd be able to prove me wrong.

Fred, you're making the assertion. It's up to you to provide the evidence. You've concocted a conspiracy theory from nothing.

Here you go. A few seconds of googling turned up a blog post with the information culled from a San Diego TV news report. Given that the events taking place are in SoCal, it's reasonable that a SoCal news organization took this much interest in the man's military past. The rest of us don't develop conspiracy theories and then demand our nutty ideas be disproven.

Oh, also, if you had read the perp's manifesto, you'd also know his military history because he tells us.

I think the three letters appropriate in this situation are, hmm, oh yeah, LOL!

Not a conspiracy theory at all. I wrote, "I don't know" at least once and most of the rest of what I wrote were in the form of questions. I don't consider that a conspiracy theory.

You're the ass that makes a conspiracy theory out of everything you read, seems to me.

Actually, the comments to that link are pretty interesting and along the line of what I brought up. No mention of SEAL possibility but they do bring up he doesn't have much in the way of awards for someone that's been where he's been.

Sounds like possibly a mediocre troop. That they're saying how dangerous he is makes me think, as I wrote, that they're hyping it to make it easier to justify just shooting him.

We'll see how this develops.

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

1) Anonymous at the top: Agreed in most part about journailists, but, think of it this way, the journalists aid and abet for the sake of their career opportunities. That makes it somewhat conspiratorial and shows that journalists (like Geraldo Rivera) will do anything and pander to anyone for their individual gains. Take the local journalists we have up here in Humboldt as an aside, they are also the editors in enough instances; and, they report misleading and misrepresented faux news. Their agenda is being connected to local political officials and wanting to be accepted as such. This makes for a crappy media environment. as far as the LA shooter, there is more to the situation, and as was written yesterday, government officials and employees cause mental disorders by and through their abusive actions. Mental issues are far from "totally genetic"; rather, more in tune with "learned behaviors" compared to "inate manifestations". Revenge is gonna hit the headlines more and more because people are getting sick and tired of abusive public officials and public employees, some of who many of us have considered friends or close acquaintences.

2) Anonymous #5: The shooter tells of his reactionary thoughts in general (with some references), not necessarliy what exactly leads to his "flipped mindset"! Notice "racism" was not first reported for about 3 days, even though the manifesto was quite known three days prior!

3) Fred, as far as shooting the shooter, still wondering why the media has yet to interview the victims of overzealous and trigger happy copper toppers who decided just to shoot at any vehicle similar to the shooters. Now, that seems conspiratorial.

Compliments Fred on some good posts the last few days. - HOJ

Fred
Naval Undersea Warfare is submarine support. If he were a SEAL, he'd be Naval Special Warfare.

If you are holed up someplace with a gun, the new standard is to burn you out. Summary execution. Remember Waco.
