Jens Sund of Forest Service Road Closures

Remember Jens Sund? He's the husband of the late Carol Sund- Carol, her daughter and a friend being the "Yosemite tourists" that were murdered some years ago.

Jens- at least I'm assuming it's the same guy- has a letter in the Redding Record Searchlight today advising us of heavy fines and penalties that might be levied by the Forest Service as a result of road closures. According to him some commonly used access roads in the South Fork of the Trinity River have been shut off from the public.

First I've heard of it and sounds a bit far fetched. Anybody heard anything else about this?

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

Speaking of the Boston Marathon and how many politicians "faked" their feelings for political show, how many politicians annually (let alone weekly) remember these "victims". Ya see, politicans are not very sincere when it is "off-camera". - HOJ

The "Forest Circus" has been closing roads in national forests all over the west in recent years. There have been a number of lawsuits filed by off-road groups and others to prevent some of the closures with little success. Too bad, most people either aren't aware or don't care because they don't have a dog in the fight so the "Circus" continues to lock up lands with little public input.

So true, Ernie. In fact, an old friend stopped by yesterday. Having read this post, he thought he'd give me his two cents. He's an avid outdoorsman who hunts, fishes, used ATVS and was active in opposing road closures.

He told me what Jens wrote is true and, as you mention, has been going on for years. He actually attended meetings with the Forest Service where they'd go over road closures. He said the ATV crowd would go over various roads and suggest which ones they wanted open the public, which only resulted in those roads being closed.

He sold his 4 runner because there was essentially nowhere to use them on national forest land anymore.
