Speaking of Disability

I'm not the only one posting about Social Security Disability:

Jonah Goldberg has a short piece in the Los Angeles Times asking if disability is the new welfare. Some interesting quotes so you don't have to use your limited number of free views to the Times:

"The government in Britain recently did something interesting. It asked everyone receiving an "incapacity benefit" — a disability program slowly being phased out under new reforms — to submit to a medical test to confirm they were too disabled to work. A third of recipients (878,000 people) didn't even bother and dropped out of the program rather than be examined. Of those tested, more than half (55%) were found fit for work and a quarter were found fit for some work."

"In 1960, when vastly more Americans were involved in physical labor of some kind, 0.65% of workforce participants between the ages of 18 and 64 were receiving Social Security disability insurance payments. Fifty years later, in a much healthier America that number has grown to 5.6%."

"In 1960, 134 Americans were working for every officially recognized disabled worker. Five decades later that ratio fell to roughly 16 to 1."

This other fellow's blog takes a deeper look at S.S. Disability, including some numbers on fraud.

Hat tip to Richard Rider for the link to the blog.

I fully support our social safety nets and dearly wish we had more and better nets. I also fully support verifying that people qualify for those nets and harshly prosecuting fraud.

Hat tip to all who discuss fraud!

Also, speak with enough employers to understand SDI and how the state "rips-off" employers.

Heck, ask enough employers about SUI and how The State don't care about job creation when it charges more for job losses (employees being let go because no work exists; employees fired for being, well, not really employable; employees who work long enough to qualify for social safety nets!!!!!!!!!!!! FRAUD!

Now, how to deal with lazy Americans who vote in favor of social safety nets. - HOJ

... employees who work long enough to qualify for social safety nets.

Then there's that other safety net: Workman's Compensation.

That one gal I mentioned in the last post on disability- the one that had the hip replacement. She got a job at a fairly popular restaurant in Old Town because a friend who already worked there recommended her.

She worked there for something like 3 weeks before having to quit because of her hip replacement surgery. The surgery was planned well before she took that job, from what I understand. They went after the restaurant to pay for the surgery as a Workmen's Comp issue.

I was told by the friend who recommended her that her boss was beyond pissed over having to deal with a Workman's Comp issue for surgery that was scheduled before the gal even worked for her. And you can imagine how embarrassed the gal was who recommended her.

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

great catch Fred, wokers compensation is terrible. In fact, State Comp got mega sued (class action ???) with regard to premiums collected. State Comp was "over-charging" employers on their premiums so that State Comp could build-up a higher accounts receivebales sum total for earned interest income for a budget that was pilfered. The scam ended-up being ovecharge now and refund later after some cockamayme excuses about making a mistake or negligience, etc....Lies upon lies upon more lies, that is the wet dream of a majority of elected officials. - HOJ

There is absolutely no reason why people receiving these free hand outs shouldn't have to do something to earn them could be something as simple as cleaning up the street or help maintain a park are doing some kind of paperwork program for the government even Community Corner stone with very disabled people are able to produce nice things but then there are the programs that you pay into your entire life like Social Security or unemployment or workers comp if the government wasn't using the money collected in these programs to perpetuate the giant Ponzi scheme then all these programs would be solvent

"Yes, you can work, Vincent. Just get your lazy butt off that stool and Do Something Useful for a change! Dammit! Year after year you just mope around your house in a funk or rush off in a mad frenzy to splash gobs of paint on a canvas and moosh the gobs around and call it "art"?! Why do I have support you? You can work. You know as well as I do you're as physically able to go out and dig ditches, or sweep the streets or do hundreds of other jobs that need doing in our community. But, no, you just are too self-absorbed to think of others. You're a disgrace to the Van Gogh name!

Travis, Government uses insurance claims as the fear factor to not "force return promises" by those receiving the free handouts.

So many things like street sidewalk sweeping, grass pulling, cigarette butt pickings, detailing/maintenance of park and sidewalk benches, fire hydrant a painting, drainage ditch clearings, culvert cleanings, etc.....

Then again, less need for the paid grunt publiuc employee standing on the lowest rung of the government ladder. - HOJ

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

One that homeowners were affected by was the "special tax" added at the time of escrow during a sale where the State was attempting to extort an additional 7% +/- for one year prior to the full refund of the overcharge/extortion attempt. The reason was to build-up a higher account balance so that more earned interest income could be generated by the State using other people's wealth. Ya see, add hundreds of thousands of sales transactions to an extortion attempt and that's a whole lotta money. - HOJ

...simple as cleaning up the street or help maintain a park are doing some kind of paperwork program for the government...

That would require 4 government employees to administer 1 welfare recipient job, the "hole" would only get deeper and wider.

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

Anonymous, what government panders as a "requirement" is merely an excuse to "not do". Government makes-up "requirements" all-the-time without justification.

Anyhow, what four duties would these government employees be classified as in order to administer the one welfare recipient job that has already been paid for ahead of time due to the idea that the recipient received something and is now being called-upon to return payment in the form of labor services.

Yes, government will use SSI, Med, etc.... as additional cost "non-benefits" in order to keep hiring non-entitlement types to in part raise societal costs based upon promises to public employees by those elected citizens not really representative too the masses of taxpayers. - HOJ

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

The picture is skewed in that which 4 or less agencies will allocate 4 FTE's? It may be that more than 4 agencies will need to be informed as to who is doing what, but it seems only one agency needs to "administrate" labor services for those receivinbg entitlements.

Of course, bureaucrats can always make-up shit JUST to make shit look unfeasible. - HOJ
