Ron Paul Goes Too Far?

Noticed a story on the Yahoo/ABC news feed yesterday titled "Has Ron Paul Gone Too Far This Time" , referring to Ron Paul's criticism of law enforcement actions while searching for the surviving Boston bomber.

My first thought was that sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut while emotions are still running high.

Then again, I was surprised to see just about every comment to the story being either in support of Ron Paul or critical of what was felt an overreaction by law enforcement and lack of concern for our civil rights. Over 13,000 comments last I looked. Just a couple samples:

Steven: "I'm a pretty hard core liberal and I actually agree with Ron Paul here. Its amazing how many people are willing to let their constitutional rights get tossed out the door in situations like this."

Niclaus:  "Why is it the press labels Ron Paul in the "overwhelming minority," and almost all comments on yahoo agree with him....".

Funny thing is, it's a safe bet the vast majority of those commentators didn't vote for Ron Paul.

The vast majority of comments agree with Ron Paul because libertarian blogs/websites and others who have readers who support Rob Paul linked to the article.

Web comments can never be said to be indicative of what a majority of people think.

For example, I'd have no trouble whatsoever throwing links to news articles at you about atheist high schoolers suing their public schools in the Bible Belt every time a school holds a Christian proselytizing assembly, puts paintings of Jesus on display, holds school-wide prayer over the intercom, etc... and the comments on these articles will be flooded with critical responses because atheist message boards link to the articles.

Not so sure that's the case here or comments would have been more Ron Paul specific- my second example being mild compared to what a lot of Ron Paul fanatics would have written, from my experience.

While comments to news articles certainly aren't proof of public opinion, I've been surprised that often Yahoo News commentators seem to think along the same line. I suspect that's more because of the type of people that follow and comment on Yahoo news stories as opposed to it being a real insight into national opinion.

Then again, at least some polls are showing most Americans don't want to get involved in Syria. Most of the comments I've been reading regarding Syria on Yahoo News tend to be along that line.

"Henchman Of Justice" says,

Saw a "hit piece" yesterday where Ron Paul was accused of 7 lies in one paragraph. Too funny how everything the treasonist media cronie said was "twisted".

One accusation, which was scathing, was that people were not ordered out of their home, but that it is not a constitutional breach when the homeowner willingly allows government to search their home. Now, in lieu that high-up officals made statements that the lock-down was over and people could return to their homes....AND THEN THE PERP #2WAS CAUGHT BY A HOMEOWNER after being allowed to go home when ordered down the block or two. Afterall, why the frick and frack does CNN admit they had to sneak through back yards and alleys to get through restricted areas locked down to get a video feed shot.

This country is a frickend basket case of deceit and fraud and corruption. Simple. Voters are naive and throwing away this country to treasonists. - HOJ

What about the recent poll that more Americans are afraid of government than terrorists? I am sure humboldt is way over the top on that one.

and what about a poll that shows how many Americans claim they are scared of their government more than terrorists, but that these same Americans vote to allow their government to become tyrannical.

That would be a cool poll to show hipocrisy at its best and practiced by the best hipocrits the world knows, Americans! - HOJ
