Nielsen's Letter

Past Eureka Police Chief Garr Nielsen wrote a letter to the editor of the Times- Standard with some observations about the arrest of EPD's Sergeant Laird. Can it be true they used 7 or 8 officers to arrest Laird at gunpoint? That does seem a bit over the top.

For a guy who states he does not know the details, he makes several judgements.

I was of the impression he was saying he doesn't know the exact details involving the charges and the incident related to the charges.

The entire letter consists of assumptions.

So far, at least from what I've read in the newspapers, I think there's no question that Nielsen is correct that Laird is being treated different than other officers would have under the same circumstances.

Whether that has anything to do with guilt or innocence on the criminal charges being made is a separate issue.

Maybe Nielsen can write a letter explaining his handling of Officer Daniel Jason Kalis. You know the officer that was stealing durgs from the evidence room. Having sex with prostitutes in the back of his patrol car. Harassing his ex wife while on duty. Something the local media totally ignored. Especially the North Coast Journal because Judy just couldn't upset the leftist apple cart.

Sounds like the Humboldt tea baggers are upset with this letter!

Seems to me I read plenty about Kalis in the local papers.

Hardly. I suspect it's one of Eureka P.D's old guard folks piping in.

This exact kind of over zealous police action happens to (civilians) around the country on a daily basis often times leadiing to the loss of life of an innocent. yet when it happens to (public official) its suddenly news worthy the cop is just lucky he didn't get publicly executed by his fellow gangster buddies I'm curious did they use their new tank for this arrest that's what it's for right serving felony arrest warrants
Just look at what happened in Sacramento last week with the gang related police shooting Even though they have the suspect cornered in a house they still set up random roadblocks and aimed assault rifles at every person passing through and it barely made the news if anything (public officials) should be held to higher accountabilities for their actions
