2014 Campaign Season Begins?

I was out in the garage yesterday afternoon when some younger fellow came walking past the house with a bag of flyers over his shoulder. He looked at a stack of papers he was carrying, came to me and said he was looking for either me or the wife. That was a voter registration list he was carrying, as I suspected.

He asked me if I'd heard of this Mike McGuire guy that's running for state senate and gave me one of the fliers. He rattled off some supposed endorsements and even claimed the Eureka City Council had endorsed him. After I thanked him for the flier he headed on up the street.

Hard to believe the Eureka City Council would have endorsed the guy, especially this early in the game. Besides, I don't know that the city council endorses candidates, do they? They might endorse as individual council members, but not as a group. If they did endorse as a group, I'd find that highly inappropriate. It's not mentioned on the flier, or his campaign web site, at least not yet.

Regardless, I wouldn't vote for this McGuire fellow anyway.

Fred,

I think you must have misunderstood the guy. Councils don't endorse candidates. What he probably said was that the majority of the City council had endorsed McGuire. By the way so has the majority of the Board of Supes along with Huffman and Thompson, etc, etc.

You might also consider checking the guy out before passing judgment. I like that a candidate is actually paying attention to the North Coast. Anyway, McGuire is the overwhelming favorite in that race. I haven't seen or heard of anyone even close to him. In a way it's unfortunate to see the race over already but sometimes it just works out that way.

I don't think I misunderstood him. He said he was endorsed by the Eureka City Council.

I might add, although I've wrote it here before, I think Jared Huffman is scum of the earth so that's a point against McGuire. But that's just me.

I might add the flier seems to have an endorsement from past assemblygal, Virginia Strom- Martin. I was sorry to see that. I thought it was a class act on her part an election or two ago where she refused to endorse any of the democrat candidates in the primary.

He is a Democrat (the used-car salesman type) from Sonoma. This is actually a very interesting post to me and I'm surprised I missed it.

I predict McGuire's local challanger in the State Senate - Chris Lehman will be one of the few times we actually vote for the same person.

Chris has the endorsement of all 5 Supervisors - I don't know if Supervisor Bohn actually did, but that may have been Chris' request. Pretty sure all 5 endorsed him though.

Any links to why you hate on Huffman?

Fred - if the canvasser said that, that would be huge! At least to me. I despise when canvassers do this. The Democrats accused the right of doing this during the last election and since I didn't speak directly to the person who experienced this I didn't mention it until after the election (and haven't posted on it, but I mean to)

There were two people who said that they were lied to either by a caller or a canvasser. One said Fullerton was endorsed by the Democrats and the other said...get this...Lisa was a Single mother.

I wonder, are you ok with such tactics? I mean people have the 1st amendment right to do this right?

This is a big negative against MM, but I was already familiar with his style from his interactions with the HCDCC so far. And I can predict that the HCDCC will be endorsing Chris in 2014. NOT SAYING THEY HAVE, just a personal prediction.

btw, unless something has changed the first anon is misinformed on the BOS. He is right about Huffman and I think Thompson.

Jared Huffman is the epitome of the big government nanny stater. I've seen his name on any number of repressive bills when he was in the state legislature.

One that comes to mind is introducing a bill to suspend the use of metal baseball bats in high school sports. A moratorium, he called it, but we know where that would be going. That bill the result of some kid getting killed after being hit in the chest with a baseball driven by a metal bat.

He also took over sponsorship of the bill to ban import of less expensive eggs into California- the Egg Safety Act, as it's called, although it has nothing to do with safety.

He's philosophical authoritarian, although I get the impression he also just likes to see his name on legislation.

Fred, fyi, it's

a-s-s-e-m-b-l-y-w-o-m-a-n or
a-s-s-e-m-b-l-y-m-e-m-b-e-r

Consider that pc? That's just making the language accurate. I thought Libertarians would be pro-accuracy in language to help the consumer (or in this case electorate) figure out the honest truth.
