Enjoying Willie Brown

I'm a Willie Brown hater from way back. You'll remember him as a big shot in the state legislature and later Mayor of San Francisco years ago. I can't recall my exact reasons for hating him. I'm sure at least some of it involved the old us vs. them partisanship.

But I do enjoy his Sunday column in the San Francisco Chronicle. I never cease to be amazed at some of the nasty comments that I see in response to it. I get the impression they're not always the result of partisanship, either. What gives?

How do you feel about unions Fred? Is that a clear subject in Libertarian thought? I assume you are against them, but why? People in a free market should be able to form a group to fight for their common interests, yes? The rising inequity in this country has to be a concern to you, no?, and a union would seem to be an ideologically OK way to help the market find a fair wage for workers.

People have a right of association. That means they can form unions, should they so choose. People also have a right to not join unions and government shouldn't be involved in either forcing people to join or recognize unions.

I think Fred hit the nail on the head people should have the right to form unions they should have the right to opt out too and like every large organization that starts off good it only takes a few to make it go bad Union have done good for a lot of people but they've also harmed a lot of things too. fred has a white man I hate to say this but I think all the racial bigotry that's been going on lately has supercharged the racial divide in this country once again for the life of me I can't see why people can't get over the color of skin but its a tribal thing you see happen in every community in the world even if we were all of the same color we would divide into groups and fight amongst each other but with this state controlled media baiting race at every turn many of the ganes we have made or being eroded or it can be simply they don't like his politics which has now been branded a former racism in itself

Thanks Fred. That is a fair distinction. We will probably differ then on important things, their names I forget. There is a dividing line there to be sure. Same dividing line on health care. It's a difficult argument for liberals to make and I'm not going to try here - not today anyway.

also this I disagree with "state controlled media"

But I bet you would jump on the bandwagon and say that Fox News is biased and leans towards Republicans but then refuse to believe that MSNBC is biased towards Democrats...

just lost my comment - doh! stupid blogger!

I agree msnbc leans left. Never forget though that it is owned by a large coorporation - there is that - but Rachel is pretty spot on, but even Bill Moyers has more freedom to speak his liberal (and sometimes conservative - listen to him) mind.
