Charlie Bean on YouTube

Local disabilities activist, Charlie Bean, does a good commercial opposing Measure R on YouTube. Nicely done. The YouTube video froze up on me half way through, but I'd heard the full commercial on 105.5FM radio less than an hour earlier.

His fears are not based in the reality of other communities that have voted higher minimum wages. The sky doesn't fall, but some people do get lifted up.

Nope. If they get lifted up, they get lifted up by pennies, and only temporarily. I can't think of one person I've heard of in my 59 years that has entered the middle class as a result of a minimum wage increase, myself included.

It's called minimum wage for a reason. Once the minimum wage is increased, other employers generally raise their wages over time. Employees demand the same- unions and government employees being among the first. despite them generally being the ones supporting that increase.

After a few years, minimum wage workers end up back at square one. That's just the way it is. If it didn't work that way, we wouldn't have to have ever raised the minimum wage.

I have no problem with small, incremental increases in the minimum wage. Doing it otherwise, in an attempt to bring prosperity to everyone, is misguided and counter productive since it attacks the very people minimum wage earners depend on for jobs.
