Political Correctness Killing Comedy
I've been reading more and more lately of comedians complaining about political correctness. Jerry Seinfeld stopped making appearances on college campuses because of political correctness. So has Chris Rock. Comedian Stephen Merchant feels the same way, and points to The Left:
“It feels like we’ve come from a point when I was growing up, where the right, if you like, were dictating what could be said and done and seen – where Mary Whitehouse was the figurehead of censorship,” said the star of Hello Ladies, adding, “Increasingly now it feels like it’s the liberal agenda that dictates what can and cannot be joked about.”
I'm trying to place comedian Artie Lange. The name sounds familiar. He says, "Political correctness is the direct enemy of comedy. Humor is to feel loose and not take yourself too seriously. You should be able to joke about everything race, religion; sexuality. Everything should be okay to joke about.”

All you have to do is look at our present day congress to see which side wants to inflict their faux-religious view upon others. Most interesting are the (supposedly) Catholics among them who loudly proclaim that the present Pope's liberal views will not be tolerated in their religious outlook. Very interesting, indeed, when Papal Infallibility is the first precept of the RC Church. A new Protestant Reformation a-budding? Hopefully, for them, this Pope will die soon and another, more conservative to their liking, replacement will dictate from the pulpits once again and all will be right with their world.
Of course, LGBYTs will absolutely force bakeries to make homosexual wedding cakes for them and that is the real suppression of rights.

The Dixie Chicks. They weren't even comedians but censored just the same. Turns out they were absolutely right.

My left wing parents are comedy aficionados. My right wing in laws hate comedy and get angry when it is presented to them. The right wingers strong idealism just can't stand a bit of questioning. Thier ideas are actually so flimsy that they can't take ANY discussion that may ridicule thier sense of being "right" about everything.
Comedy has to do with questioning reality. Comedy MUST have some truth to it to make it funny.

Americans, both left and right are big prudes these days. Good comedy always hits on sex and drugs and people are just ill equipped to discuss such matters anymore. Guys are now boys. Running around with baseball caps turned backwards and obsessed with sports. They can't seduce a woman or please her in bed,so they don't want to hear anything about it. Especially if they are being made fun of about it!
I would figure that Fred is a Carlin fan?
I actually saw Carlin live back around '71ish at Crawford Hall at UCI. You often see him quoted by libertarians. I was a bit young to appreciate him fully then, but even back then- despite having a dirty mouth myself- I wasn't very comfortable with making a big deal out of dirty words.
Him or anyone else, for that matter. You'll recall back in the day they had network censors and such. Once they started allowing more things to be said on the air, people started pushing the limits. I got a bit annoyed with people trying to be suggestive just to see how far they could go.
Rowan and Martin's "You bet your sweet bippy" seemed to be one of those things that kinda had an underlying sexual reference to it. I didn't find it all that funny, at least after the first couple times they used it.

That was likely the Left of yesterday, which is not the Left of today. As has been pointed out elsewhere, the do what you want, just don't hurt anybody hippies and anti- war Left
of the 60s and 70s, are a far cry from the Left of today.
