Shopping Cart Misuse

I've mentioned shopping cart misuse here before. For instance, the guy and his wife cluttering up the check out line at Winco with a shopping cart that only held a gallon of milk. This time it's a rant mostly because I didn't have the guts to say something to the girl who is the target.

Went to Winco this morning. As I'm approaching the Exit doors a nice looking girl grabs a shopping cart from in front of the store and goes in the Exit. You're not supposed to do that, but it's generally not a big deal if you don't have a shopping cart. I went in the exit because I had to order something from Leonardo's. The girl takes her cart and forces her way into the store through the self- checkout aisle. I figured that's the last of her and it's not too big a deal.

I finish my shopping. I go to the checkout and, lo and behold, the same girl moves in right behind me with her shopping cart. What does she have in it? Maybe a pound or two of something from the deli. Just one small package- maybe 6"x2"x4"- in her shopping cart.

I put my stuff on the conveyor belt. She puts her meat, or whatever it was, behind mine. I look back to see if she's gonna pester everyone by cluttering up the line with her shopping cart. Nope. She just pushed it out of the way at the end of the line, leaving it there.

All that for a pound or two of something she could have easily carried in her hand. That's bullshit. Don't do that.

There should be a law against that.
On the other hand, Fred, many ailments are hidden from the usual bystander. Arthritis, carpal tunnel, sprained wrist-elbow-shoulder-finger, chronic can't remember stuff syndrome, forgotten checkbook-list-appointment,
And then there's those who decided to rehash the good old days when they'd push a wonky wheel cart throughout the store in search of couponed treasures. Today, the treasures are rare, hardly enough to fill the bottom of a pocket let alone a shopping cart.

Please don't say that everyone using a cart for less than you think you could carry is some kinda of problem, or bullshit.

You have no idea (because you didn't ask her) why she does that.

So that you're projecting on her that she's lazy is not fair or right.

As the comment above, many conditions are not obvious. I have a friend with a heart condition and a pacemaker that regularly takes abuse from random bystanders because she uses her handicapped tag and they can't "see" an injury.

Try to do to others what you wish they'd do unto you -- basically staying out of your business, right? She didn't hassle you, what right have you got to hassle her?

Winco needs to get some of those small-capacity carts like they have at Safeway and Murphy's. I use them frequently though I "could" maybe carry what I'mbuying. I'm sure I buy more having the cart. I watched a very fit young guy taking an empty cart to the far end of the parking lot cart and didn't have time to wait to see what he did with it but I'm fairly sure it ended up in someone's yard or driveway.

She was fine. Probably early 30s, good looking, and walked to the store probably faster than I did. I didn't notice her until she got on the sidewalk in front of the store. Not sure if she lived nearby or parked in the west parking lot.

She could have easily walked to the deli. Got her package of whatever it was and checked out without using a cart or even a shopping bag. She could have also used the self- checkout as the checker suggested to her. For some reason she didn't seem interested. Just as well as I try to avoid self checkout, too.

"Winco needs to get some of those small-capacity carts like they have at Safeway and Murphy's"

I haven't used a cart at Winco in years. Then again, I don't buy much there. I'll usually just take two of the shopping bags I bought years ago and that's enough. And I'm not cluttering up the store with a huge shopping cart.

As an aside, had an older lady talk to me about it one day. She noticed me going around and just putting stuff in my shopping bag. She said she was thinking of doing that, too, but was worried wrongful attention might come upon her for stuffing a bag in the store. Appearance of shoplifting, she felt.

I told her I've been using the bags for some time and have never had any problems. Closest thing to it was once one of the checkers asked me to show her my bags were empty. I believe it might have been the same gal that checked me out today. Hasn't happened since, though.

I'm just waiting to use a line I came up with if someone in the checkout line asks me about my bags: "They're great. I only pay for half of what I actually put in the bags...". Get it?

" I'm fairly sure it ended up in someone's yard or driveway."

I believe that's the first time I've seen someone just leave a cart in a store aisle like that. I did see one gal years ago come out, put her stuff in her car, then just push the cart away despite the cart rack being within 20 feet of her.

She looked around, couldn't seem to figure out what to do with her cart so just pushed it away from her car. Well, I guess they hire guys to take care of the carts but, the bad thing about that time, was the cart rolled a ways and hit someone else's car putting a ding in the body. Dumb bitch.

I wrote, "...in the west parking lot."

Oops! I meant east parking lot.

Just a thought, Fred, but maybe instead of a blog you should have gotten a life. . .
