California Strives For Political Correctness
I'm surprised to see the Sacramento Bee run this commentary on this state's efforts to ensure not just politcally correct legislation, but politically correct thought. Especially so, since The Bee generally supports the politically correct positions on the issues featured:
Smoke a cigarette, own a gun, cut a tree, pan for gold, question the “inconvenient truth” of human-caused global warming, utter an impolite joke or even drive a gasoline-powered car and you may run afoul of an ever-tightening web of laws and rules that punish your heresy – promulgated by political figures who talk constantly about their respect for civil rights.

I call it false victimhood.
1. You can smoke as many cigarettes as you want. Just not in certain public spaces.
2. You can pan for gold 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, till you are blue in the face. But you can't mine or dredge for gold without a permit or without following certain laws.
3. You can own a gun. Lots of them. Uzis even. But you will need to get a permit to carry one around.
4.Jokes and global warming denial are covered under free speech.

Only two of those examples are speech or free thought issues, and the article provided no evidence of laws being passed prohibiting them (questioning global warming or uttering an impolite joke). It's one big rhetoric piece, or truthiness piece as Colbert would say.
Yes, and now Oakland is trying an "EPP", aka "Equity Permit Program" for pot war reparations Where 50% of permits go to those put in jail by drug laws.

The irony - reparation, PC types are ruining society moreso than bigotry, racism, sexism and the like when it causes no less than bitterness and rights takings of a myriad of sorts upon people who are the least threat to society and those creating the ludicrous changes in America.
Watching the sitcom previews of "Mr. ed & Green Acres" is all any American needs to bare witness to understand what is different in Americans: social values, and ironically, the ongoing battle between rural and urban.
It is industry and urbanization that have fueled greed the past 120 years. Now, mass starvation and viruses will occur to kill off the human cock roaches, so not much more PC to worry about.

When I came across Fred's blog, it was by chance. However, I was specifically searching for information about Eureka, CA because I have been considering relocating to Eureka for about one year. The prices for homes seem to be more expensive than here, so just have to work on that detail.
