That Hirsoshima Thing

Much in the news the last few days about President Obama's trip to Japan on some anniversary of the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War 2, with much speculation of what the President would say. Would he apologize, or should he? I'm sure many of you might be wondering how I feel about that, but might be disappointed as my feelings probably aren't too far off from mainstream on that one.

No, he shouldn't have apologized. If nothing else, you can bet they would have done the same thing to us given the capability to do so.

Aside from that, maybe dropping that bomb was a good thing in the long run. After all, now we know what nuclear weapons do and have a graphic example of what we face. As a result, there's a substantial movement across the globe to reduce inventories of nuclear weapons, for whatever good they've done. I would say that's a good thing.

We cannot apologize because, although awful, it had to be done to preserve our freedom Because of Sun City, there are alot of retired WW2 veterans here. All of them I've met are good guys. Remember Pearl Harbor. Remember all the good Americans who gave their service and lives.

The president didn't apologize for the US dropping two atomic bombs on Japan. Every media outlet I've read/watched has been clear on that point. Is Fox News saying he apologized, or have you misunderstood all of the news reports?

If you think he apologized for dropping the atomic bombs, I challenge you to quote the apology. He made sympathetic remarks regarding the people killed and the tragedy of war, but he didn't come remotely close to an apology regarding Fat Man and Little Boy.

Geez, Fred, you don't know your WWII history at all. Bombs were dropped in August 1945. This here be May. Only anniversary there is VE day, 71 years ago, if that's what you have in mind.

And, no, as stated above, President Obama did NOT apologize for dropping them. Usual right wing horse sh*t being shoveled by the usual RW sources.
But I hear that Libertarian Thingy is getting mellow. Puff, puff.

Neither Fred, Fox, nor I stated that the president apologized. In fact, it was stated on the news that he did not. Speaking of libertarian, Gary Johnson was featured in a small segment on the Austin news (KXAN) in a positive manner tonight. Maybe it's on their website.

Sally, you are wrong. Re-read Fred's post. Fred wrote "No, he shouldn't have apologized." Fred is explicitly claiming the president apologized when Fred criticizes the president for apologizing.

Except, the president did not apologize.

9:29, you missed this part of Fred's post. "much speculation of what the President would say. Would he apologize,...."

Dr. Marc Feldmen did great on c-span tonight, & his closing was epic. (Inclusive) Gary only got boo'd twice. Perry showed his anger side. McAfee as cool and suave as ever. Petersen was nervous & tight, but his messages were great despite it. I'm looking forward to 6:45am tomorrow for the main.

I wrote, "with much speculation of what the President would say. Would he apologize, or should he?"

Thus I didn't write that he should apologize, simply that, prior to his visit, media questioned whether he should or would.

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm reading now that libertarians are pissed at Gary Johnson saying we shouldn't apologize for dropping the bomb.
