Hoopa Ray's Cleanup Continues

The Times- Standard reports on continuing efforts to clean up the Hoopa Ray's Food Place, that store having been close due to a rat inestation. Hoopa residents can't shop there until the store is cleared for opening by County Health. Some residents are now having to drive to Willow Creek for groceries.

I don't get how the health department can shut off the community's only access to food. Seems to me, if there is an actual health threat, the health department should just warn residents of it and let people make their own choices of whether they want to buy food there. The end result might still be the same with most still opting to go elsewhere for goceries, but at least they'd have the choice.

It would really piss me off if they tried a stunt like this with Eureka's Winco Foods. I suppose I could always switch to the Food Mart in Fortuna or Long Valley Market in Laytonville but I'd prefer to make that decision myself rather than the health department leaving me no choice at all.

yeah, I'm not so sure I'd feel at risk buying a can of Dinty Moore beef stew, so long as I washed off the outside of the can.

Have you checked any Dinty Moore beef stew canneries lately, or do you just assume everything's AOK? Cummon, if there were rats in the DM cannery we'd have heard about it by now, because......

Then too, there's too much regulation; too many laws on the books already; we don't need any more laws. Let's see have I left anything out? Oh yeah, you can trust your conservative controlled congress to do the right thing for....

A. You
B. Dinty Moore
C. Themselves
D. They're leaving it up to God.

Choose one and choose wisely there may not be any redos

Fred,

Its Indian Affairs too that has jurisdiction (so many rules and different soveriegn nations pissed off).

No way HOJ buys rat feces infested food or other products that are not cans or plastic containers, and even then, 50% discounts on everything.

Administrative level C & K Market care only about money, profits, cash flow and employees of Rays knowingly operates in an infested building where food is sold to Natives........guess white man corporate slavery techniques got taught too well to mom and pop..... and to use food as an economic tool to feed pigs the slop of the rest of society.......Natives are not pigs, but Rays and C&K provide slop knowingly while commenting excuses by pointing the blame elsewhere, typical corporate/greed employee training to maximize company returns......says something about individual people who care not about others, but only themselves and their careers to gain wealth off the squalor and degradation of others.

Anybody local at the news get the name of the C&K rep making these public service announcements?

HOJ's neighbor is a C&K rep. It could be the same guy, which would be ironic as he moved away.

Wonder how many years this Rays infestation has been incubating?

I can assure you that county health did not want to do this, they worked with the store but the problem was just way too gross and little was being done.
Even cans were covered in crap and pee.
County Health has a responsibility as well as regulkations they must follow here, they can't ignore the abuses they see, they do everything possible to gain compliance.

I support county health is this nasty problem.

During the nicer weather, most of the critters go back outside to play, leaving their nests for a rainy day. Why wasn't this you tubed by every patron in the winter during the heavier fest ation season? All of a sudden it's such a bad mess they're forced to close the doors? Remember the freaky movie "Ben"?
Sad & strange. I'd like to hear first hand accounts from those who've shopped there for years.
