Neat Tracking Device

Found this link on the Weather Channel web site. The TrackR is about the size of a quarter. You can set it up to track where just about anything is. As they suggest: Lose your car in the parking lot? Use Track R to find it on your cell phone. I especially liked the idea of having one on pets. Hook one to your dog's collar and never lose him again.

I'd buy one, but the $29.99 price is a bit too much right for me now.

There are a lot of competing keyfinder gadgets. All I've seen suffer the same issues:

* Battery life of 1 year

* Non-replaceable battery

* Ship the gadget back to the manufacturer to get a new one when the battery dies, or buy a new one.

* At the time you've purchased the gadget, the battery has already been draining an unknown number of months. Yes, batteries discharge (drain) just sitting on a shelf.

I owned a competing keyfinder. It worked wonderfully until it didn't. It lasted about 3 months then I had to uninstall and reinstall the app to get it recognizing the keyfinder again. Then the battery crapped out a month later.

When they let you replace the battery yourself, or better, let you use replaceable rechargeables, I'll heavily invest in the technology.

Animals too, even internally.

Wonder what the range is?

Get a bunch, start attaching underneath all local cop cars, track them for a change.

"Wonder what the range is?"

Someone on the nextdoor e-mail list said either 50 feet or 50 yards, either of which wouldn't make it of much use for me. I broke down and ordered one so we'll see.
