Ring Necked Turtle Doves

I'm pretty sure these are the doves we've had hanging in our neighborhood for the last couple years. They were in our apple trees yesterday. I first noticed them by their peaceful hoo- hoo call. Funny that this Wikipedia article says "..Their song is a loud and harsh “kuk-COORRRR-uk, ...". These don't sound like that. Maybe I've got the wrong bird?

Another weird thing is it's said their range is elsewhere, including southern CA. But, somewhere I read that some escaped from captivity and spread their range. Maybe they're up here now? Let's hope so.

What your seeing is the Eurasain collard dove introduced in the 80's its considered a invasive species. They've been around here for a few years, I just noticed them showing up in the last few days.

I enjoy the sound of these doves. I find it quite soothing.

The newly remodeled indian affairs building in Old Town is being ruined by doves or pigeons, maybe both.

They shit all over, disgusting.

What is worse is that bums shit less, but the birds are allowed to shit all over.

Who sues a city that violates protected rights?

Why bear arms if ya can't discharge that arm......so cities are violating the USC.....not good.

Doves are a nuisance, eating the garden that feeds a family.......kill the dove.

No. Doves, at least these ones, don't seem to gather in larger flocks like pigeons do. I've never seen more than two of these together at one time.

How is it these are called invasive. Does that mean they just came from somewhere else?

I believe that's generally what it means. that, and they expand their range very quickly.
