Eureka's Gun Buy Back Program

I just received an e-mail from City of Eureka leading to this Nextdoor page announcing a gun buy back program. How cute! I held back when I read of Eureka City Council's latest rental home inspection plan where inspectors will go out and hassle people over what are deemed unsafe or unattractive aspects of local rental housing. The Times- Standard quoted someone in city hall as saying that's a good idea because "Los Angeles and San Francisco do it that way".

Great. So now the main towns in Humboldt join in a race to the bottom? Seems many forget why we moved up here: you know, the live and let live attitude and all that. That's what I originally liked about being here. I guess the big city types, including former big city cop, Chief Andrew Mills, don't see it that way. I'm guessing but it would seem a gun buy back is his idea.

So how do those buy backs work? My understanding is you can take in any gun and be paid a stipend for it. I have a friend- a gun guy who is a deputy sheriff in Washington now- who witnessed such transactions and said, to be honest, the money paid for the quality of guns acquired was a "pretty good deal" for the seller.

I suppose that makes it no big deal except for the big city attitude raising its ugly head yet again. I guess we should all join in and follow Eureka in its race to the bottom.

Addendum: I see Lost Coast Outpost is covering this story.

Living in an urban setting sucks.

More owners would live in those homes instead of converting them into rental units if there was more trees in Eureka and the sidewalks were nice, the roads were nice, the infrastructure was not crap as it is...... Eureka looks like white trash mixed in with outside fuselage of drug addicts and other social service vagabonds.

Who's foolish enough to trade in a gun and get paid for it?

Answer: a thief

The system as it is forces people to go poor, then the government comes in and says they will buy your guns, just turn them in now........ if that isn't a tactic to disarm the country so that more control can be exerted by government with less resistance because guns are no longer there for the people to protect themselves against the tyrants.

It's a global mandate, implemented through local channels who were madated into poverty so they would sell out the people, the country, though grants, paidfor by theirown tax dollars.

i will actually leave a comment about this article !
i dont see anywhere where the weapon turned in has to be working . so i would love to turn in my 3 , 100 year old double barrel shotguns that CAN NEVER BE FIXED OR FIRED
they were found by my dad in the late 40s in a creek bed when he was deer hunting and he brought them home.
so if i can turn in garbage and receive a few dollars , i would happily do so .
the rest of my guns they will have to pry them from my cold dead fingers

I'm not sure what the criteria is but have gotten the impression so long as it looks like a working gun, you'll be paid for it, which is why Kimbo said sellers are usually getting a pretty good deal.

When you think about it, those junk guns that might not even fire are the ones I'd prefer the bad guys keep and use.

Today I learned Fred thinks Los Angeles and San Francisco are at, or near the bottom, of California cities. That's so funny. Every community in Humboldt is shitsville. Trying to become a modern, enjoyable city is the opposite of a race to the bottom. Raise your standards Fred.

WHats the big deal? It isn't infringing on anyone's rights.

2:15, fear mongering propaganda treads on all rights.
They are hoping to sucker in suckers who don't know that their inheritance gift is actually worth $1500.00 as opposed to the measely $50.00 or so bucks they're offering the sweet widow.
Calif democrats need to raise $25,000.00 extra per month, to pay a gun runner to sue Trump. How fitting.
